by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Thu Jul 07, 2011 08:02 AM PDTFolks there are humans being hanged off cranes! I am all for animal rights. But let us put things into perspective. There is Persepolis in danger; Bahai being persecuted and you are talking dogs!
In some nations people eat them as dinner. I mean if we want to pick a fight pick the right one. Yes it would be great if animal rights are observed. However I will be waiting to have human rights respected before this.
I like the suggestion by Ari. How about we all pitch in. Buy shares of Purina and donate them to Khamenei. Then he would be singing a different tune. Maybe dog ownership will be a requirement for good Muslims and get them 25 virgins.
If IRGC owned Purina, dog adoption would be a fatwa

The petition wording is interesting. Respectful towards Islam and Prophet, but criticizes the government for neglecting bigger health issues:
"We feel that the issue of lack of
cleanliness of stray dogs and their presence in and around towns and
cities should be viewed in the light of a larger picture of hygiene in
the Iranian society, where not enough attention has been paid to other
health-related matters such as general food safety, disposal of clinical
and hospital waste, road safety, air pollution, contamination of rivers
and reservoirs that feed into waters that are used for public
consumption, etc."
I am all for not giving up on lost causes :)
by Roozbeh_Gilani on Thu Jul 07, 2011 07:35 AM PDTYou are very right my friend, and please excuse and ignore my earlier cynical comment.
"Personal business must yield to collective interest."
dear Roozbeh
by Truthseeker9 on Thu Jul 07, 2011 07:30 AM PDTYou are right, but we still must try to put pressure on them and not forget animals who share this planet with us. We must no give up ever.
Liberal Bourgeoise is such a bliss...
by Roozbeh_Gilani on Thu Jul 07, 2011 07:27 AM PDTDo you really think that a regime which habitually- in the name of god - hangs and tortures to death scores of people on a daily basis without a care about world opinion would all of a sudden form an animal welfare programme in response to our emailed petition? Do you think that a society so brutalised by witnessing regular public hangings is on the same page with the rest of us with regards to animal welfare?
Time for you to pay a visit to Iran, time for reality check.
"Personal business must yield to collective interest."
Thanks for posting.
by Truthseeker9 on Thu Jul 07, 2011 07:16 AM PDTIs it worth getting the big Animal Welfare groups involved to put some pressure on them and get some clout behind this petition? It may make a big difference.
Two that come to mind are:
Humane Society International info@hsi.org
In Defense of Animals" takeaction@idausa.org
I know that they took action against inhumane culling of stray dogs in Eastern Asia and China. Please can you confirm if any big Animal Welfare Organisations know about this inhumane culling situation in Iran?
I will sign but does it really count?
by Soosan Khanoom on Thu Jul 07, 2011 07:39 AM PDTDo you think IRI even cares ?
I have no idea where they even got the idea to treat dogs like that .. !!
There is the story of Ashab-e Khaf in Quran and a companion of them during their adventure which was a dog .... God not only saved them but also he saved their Dog .....
Thanks for posting this and bring it to our attention
