Passover

Among the Jewish holidays, Passover is my favorite; it has something to do with its occurring around the Iranian New Year as well as something about its meaning which reminds me of most of our holidays: cleaning, preparing special foods, bringing symbolism into life, referring and pointing to one thing which stands for something else.

Obama's Call

Just few days left to the election’s D-Day and most likely, almost definitely, Barak Obama will be in the White House in January 2008.

What makes this election an historical event in the United States is not only the contrast in the president’s color with that of his place of residence, but the contrast in tone and climate that this man of color would cast with those of his predecessors in the recent American history.

Sara Palin, a Woman's View

While our Republicans were in the state of rapture with their vice president’s nominee, I was stunned looking at Sara Palin’s family in their seats, with the dozing babypassed from lap to lap, finally to land in the lap of the youngest one, a child herself who from time to time graced his head with her handful of spit. (I’m not sure if it has any Alaskan ritualistic significance.)

The Recent Parliamentary Elections in the Islamic Republic

“Once again, the people of Iran entrusted the Parliament to the fundamentalists.” This was the headline of Keyhan,
the government’s publication in Tehran. There was a change to
Saturday’s headline, “Under the wondering gaze of the world, the
nation’s vote broke the enemy’s back.” Keyhan’s
headlines celebrated what appears laughable but, sadly, is true: “A man
wrestled with himself and three of them came first,” a revision of a
