1979 Again : My top 10 favorite songs of 1979

I think it is too early to hope that the green movement can be able to throw out the Ayatollahs from Iran. The Ayatollahs are more ruthless than the Shah was and the Green movement people more polite than those that made noise in 1978.

But like they say, dreaming, hoping and believing is what pushes people to prosper. So let's encourage them by pretending it is 1978 or 1979.

Here are my top 10 hits of 1979. What were yours?

1. Gloria Gaynor - I will survive

2. Abba - Summer Night City

3. Umberto Tozzi - Gloria

Official websites for dead people

More and more we are getting our updates from the Web and not the TV. Early on, one had to remember to visit saved links once in a while, but now with RSS and news readers, the news comes to you.

This past year I have been gathering RSS feeds for material I am interested in. Eventually, couple of days ago it was time to collect some material on iranian subject maters I am interested in.

New Iranians at an International Airport

I spent a week travelling through India. A country that leaves an impression. Very interesting, but also very poor, even more than I thought. At the same time it felt safer than I had thought. As an author wrote about it, several centuries live alongside each other in India.

Arrival in India

My India experience has finally started. The airplane arrived in Delhi and the first bumpy part of the trip started. I had planned to sleep in the airport before taking a local flight in the morning. But one quick look at the minusculous, noisy, fully lit arrival hall, I realized that I needed to figure a plan B really quickly. So quickly pulled out the Lonely Planet guide for help.

While touts surrounded my. But thankfully I got a nice prepaid taxi. But the road was scary, ugly, dusty, etc.

Number #1 Video in Spain: Funny!

The video happened in real life. There was a soccer match. Then a TV reporter went to report about the ambiance and festivity in the streets. As usual people stand behind the reporter and do funny things. The guy on your left as you view, simulates having sex with the reporter. He does it so well, and she never notices anything.

Iranian indian flavoured Music

Pretty soon I am going to be off to India for the first time in my life. I'll be visiting Delhi, Agra, Gwalior, Orchha and Khajuraho. Anyone has any impressions or thoughts about these places? I am backpacking. No fancy hotels or organized tours.

I already messed up the vaccination part because one has to get the vaccines 1 and a half months before leaving to avoid reacions, which I didnt do.

Visiting India late March 2009

I'm finally on my way to India. I'll be there late March. I got my visa last week. It was 50 Euros. And today I got vacation days from my boss. I only need the vaccine shots, which I hope to get in the month remaining before I go.

Ideally a place like India should be visited in an organized tour. But it is so much more expensive and I only have a backpackers budget. So I'll be backpacking my way using trains.

Has any one of you travelled through Delhi, Agra, Gwalior, Orchha and Khajuraho?

Harassment at Athens Airport

If you were born in Iran but have a non-iranian passport, as it is my case, you may want to reconsider any flight transfers or travel through Greece.

I had been to Greece 3 times in the past without any problem. This was the fourth time, and I went to see the beautiful Island of Rhodes ( Rodos / Rodi ).

Here's my picture in Rhodes:

Started Planning India Trip

I've spent the past two days seriously planning a trip to India.

First of all, I've decided that for my budget and situation I will only do Delhi, Agra ( Taj Mahal) and the big Rajastan province. This is all North West of India.

I was also seriously considering adding Lucknow and Varanasi ( Benaras ) to the list, but the cost would go up significantly as they are more than 300 miles plus in the other direction East of Delhi.

Telegram from ERZURUM

So it was a long 5 day weekend in Spain, so I had to go and travel someday. Originally my idea was to go to Syria, but they require visa and there are no affordable flights to Syria. So while working and having little time to think, I decided to buy a round trip ticket from istanbul to Erzurum. Erzurum is in East Turkey, near the Ararat mountains.

Right before Easter, I read this article on iranian.com by Hoder nagging about airport security and how Iranians are harassed in airports. I was in a bit of disbelief that an adult had written such a piece. A commentator though pointed out that it was an allegory. I wanted to comment back that only people with narrative skills should write allegories because it really didn't come through. The article suggested through a link that we should be upset at the American government or Western governments. Off course I disagree.

Lasic Eye Surgery: Think twice!

By irannostalgia.com

In the past three years I have pushed myself to travel and visit beautiful places whenever I can take a break off work. It has worked as my therapy and has kept me out of depression. However, after couple years traveling all over, this year I was a bit tired and somewhat out of close places to go to. I’ve been everywhere within the low-cost airline’s flight radius. So instead of traveling, this year I decided to have lasic surgery to correct my vision. I thought it would lift my mood.

Persepolis in Madrid

Tommorow is a national holiday in Spain, so it was a good night to go out. A web banner on a national newspapers website reminded me that today was the release date for Marjan Sertrape's Persepolis in Spain. So I decided to go to the theatre and watch it. I had just said goodbye to my landlord after paying her 1/3 of my salary for rent. So I hoped watching the movie Persepolis would ease up the rent blues!! It didn`t.

I was recently in the South France city of Avignon in the region of Provence. It was recommended by an Italian coworker of mine and I must say that it lived up to the hype.

At the below link you can see the pictures I took during the trip:

I work fulltime. This combined with having little money means that you have to plan the trip yourself and on your bosses back and in a hurry before they catch you spending too much time on easyjet.com.

The dangers of unprofessional blogging

In the late 90s, I took an HTML programming class at Evergreen Valley College in San Jose. Back in those days if you wanted to create a website, you had to know some programming. Ok, there was MS Frontpage, but it would have been a sin to mention it in a job interview, so it was best to learn HTML. I was very fascinated with the 1970s TV series Space 1999 on the one hand, and with Italo Disco music on the other. Creating my tribute websites for them
was what pushed me to learn.
