There have been other petitions and more than one submission. Even if it does not heed. Meanwhile, I think google notices. Other tactics on google are pretty effective also. see my earlier post or do a search with 'Arabian Gulf'.

i signed this petition I think 3 times from 3 computers, with 3 different names and emails - about a year ago!  Should I sign it again you think?  When is google finally getting the message that 1.2 million (- 2) cannot be wrong?!

This is not a new issue, and certainly not isolated to Google maps.  After the Battleship Missouri came back from the Gulf war, it retired to a cozy cove in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.  We visited the Mighty MO in 2002, and to my surprise, the big map on the control bridge stated Arabian Gulf instead of Persian Gulf.  This is not isolated to Google and everyone needs to be vigil.

SP, those were nothing but speeches. Nasser in the context

of Pan Arabism, and Saddam invoking it for his own sake just as he added allah to Iraqi flag even though he was an atheist. The reality is under the Shah and Iran's mighty army (by independent acounts) no one dared to call Persian Gulf anything but. Certainly even if they did, there was no support for it anywhere except the Arab world.

And 'the ever independent IRR' is little more than Putin's lap dog, Chinese doorman, among top trading partners to half dozen European countries, while staggering poverty reigns, Natioanl money goes to islamic terrorists everywhere in the name of parity and regional balance, Sepah owns most of countries economic infra and yes back to subject of Persian gulf and other Iranian interests like Khazar rights on fish, oil and territory including concessions to nowhere tribes that are now countries. I know you and everything you defend. I can also read to the depth of your so called analogy and arguments so if you want to play this game be prepared to take a factual & analytical beating or take your paid propaganda elsewhere.

Of course, now that Iran is resistant to US/Israeli hegemony, yes, you're right, it is an issue. Everything is an issue for the West if it can somehow be leveraged against the ever independent Islamic Republic of Iran.

SP, we would not need a petition or other activity to protect

an ancient and well established name, if it were not for IRR, before which this was a non-issue. This is but one example of the many holes IRR has dug that we have to pull ourselves out of.

Ari, actually I agree with pope on petitions in general and understand your groaning but this had to be done and the good news is it has legs and numbers so google will notice whether or not they heed it. As you are probably aware, Google is in deep with the government on GPS activity that drives the maps and The Gulf and Arabian Gulf are both favors to buy Arab support for nepherious activity that U.S. can push on Google. And of course, IRR plays right into their hands with fine publicity and love they are buying from everywhere.

We certainly won't be able to protect our national wealth and heritage with foreign or foreign loving thugs running our country. Hopefully, the current uprising of Iranian nation is deep and ferocious enough to get rid of IRR so we can start healing, repairing & reclaiming.  Meanwhile, every little bit helps.
