The future of the Iranian people is inextricably tied to the state of israel because the state of israel is inextricably tied to the US. Your tax dollars and mine are maintaining this unholy alliance to a very substantial degree. The US taxpayers, ourselves, have built the Israeli killing machine to the point where it towers over that of every other nation in the world aside from ourselves, the Russians, the Chinese - who else (I'm not sure at the moment). The point is every other nation in the mideast is a midget in comparison, including Iran.

Brazil and Turkey are on the high moral ground regarding Iran's right to enrichment, their right to a civilian nuclear power generation capability, and their right to insist the Great Powers get off their case. Great Powers seem to have a thing for Dual-track approaches to issues they determine are in their 'spheres of influence'. The Dual-track 100 years ago were the stated policies of Great Britain, Russia, and France. The inside track was a number of secret treaties and agreements whereby these 'great powers' carved up the world for their own greedy rapaciousness.

The Security Council had told Iran it had to stop enrichment. That obviously trumped what many in the international community thought was international law, i.e. the wording of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, which seemed to give Iran the right to enrichment. Why didn't the Secretary General , Ban K Moon, simply come out and tell Iran that straightforwardly?

I can't imagine any U.S. President uttering such a thing. Can anyone point, for example, to John F. Kennedy's or Dwight Eisenhower's advisers putting words in their mouths like these of President Obama's in the Nuclear Posture Review?

Let's not re-do Iraq. A week or two before the invasion, it has been reported, an intermediary from Saddam Hussain was in touch with Richard Pearl, one of the architects of the Iraq War, to make contact with our government to negotiate something short of war and, evidently, at that point we were unwilling to consider anything other than Saddam Hussein immediately stepping down as President. Our dismissiveness towards the Iranians seems similarly short-sighted.
