I heard a big commotion. Dashed outside to see what was happening. A small crowd was gathered around my neighbor’s yard. They were all staring at a tree. I got closer and noticed that the object of the commotion was a cat perched high on a tree seemingly looking with disgust at all the people who were trying all the tricks they knew to entice it to come down and go home.

Before you harp all over me with all kinds of invectives, please hear me out. There are two major types of devotees of communism who live in non-communist societies. One is composed of the pure-at-heart idealist who deeply feels the pain and privation of the poor. This type believes that the society should not allow great disparity of wealth, adhering to the famed banner cry, "From everyone according to his means, and to everyone according to his needs."

che aroosi baashe, che azaa --barreh mishavad ghaza. Whether it is a wedding or a funeral, the lamb ends up as food. This reminds me of the plight of my havatanaan, particularly those who are poor. When their sons and daughters get arrested by the heartless akhoonds' police, the ordeal of the poor truly becomes catastrophic. They may lose their bread-winner and on top of that they will have to contend with the forever practice of RUSHVEH to learn about the fate of their loved-one, to get some food to him/her or springing him free.

Jahanshah reacted with exhilaration for having received a $ 500 donation from a single individual and thanking the person profusely. Yes, the donor needs be thanked. Yet, it is somewhat puzzling that this contribution is the larges sum he has received and apparently a single one at that.

The greatly prestigious SCIENCE published a 2/3 page exquisitely-composed letter from Ali Gorji "Defending Freedom in Iran's Universities." (Science, Vol 326 23 October 2009, p. 521). I am deeply moved and impressed by Ali's undertaking and by SCIENCE actually allocating its most coveted space to publish this letter.
