Sending SMS to family

So I have sent a bunch of text messages using my cell phone provider but of course they haven't received any of them. I've heard there are certain websites that one can use to send SMS to Iran. Does any one know of any or have you used their services and would recommend it? Whether the site is free or not, it is not important - I just want it to work so that I can SMS my family and friends.

Merci!

Sahar

Need translation..."vakeelam?"

I was watching a movie (a movie brought over from Iran)...and in one scene the guy asks the girl "Vakeelam?". I don't understand this. I thought that word is usually used by a clergy when there is wedding/aghd. Yet, in this movie the guy and the girl are in the park and he asks her that question. She then shly looks away.... Does he want to marry her right there? Or am I totally off? Or is that how guys propose in Iran?

Need information again - going back to Iran.

Hello everyone! I will be going to Iran and was going to bring back some Iranian movies...but I heard some Iranian DVDs (or I think they are called VCDs) do not work on the DVD players here. Some have said I need to buy the DVDs from specific stores. My cousin bought original DVDs and neither worked on her home DVD player or labtop.

If you have any advice or information, I greatly appreciate it.

ALSO!!!!! what things can I not bring back? They say "zereshk" and "tokhmeh" will be taken. Any ideas?

Thanks! Advice about Tehran.

Wow!!!! I asked a simple question about where to visit while I am in Tehran and I got a few good answers and a lot of 'chert o pert'. It was clear that most individuals had a chip on their shoulder!

Thanks to those who answered my question about where to visit. I am sure I will not be depressed and will not want to return after 3 days (as some individual had mentioned - every trip and opinion is subjective).

More advice: Tehran & places to visist.

I finally bought my ticket and I am going to Iran in a month or so -- woohoo! I need one more advice though! While in Tehran, where should I visit? I will be with family mostly & I am sure they will have their own ideas of where I should visit - but they live there so what may be interesting to them, may not be fun/interesting to me. Any advice?

Travelling to Iran & my last name

Dear fellow Persians/Iranians,

I need your help. I am planning on travelling to Iran after 16 years. I recently dropped the second part to my last name (it was hyphenated and way too long). Now, in my Iranian passport my name is Sahar Jafarian. However, in my American passport, it is Sahar Jafarian-xxxxx (I choose not to reveal it).
