Mahmoud's unique approach to the lives of Iranians in diaspora continues to be refreshing. His cartoons are original and poignant in chronicling what he is observing about many of us. As such, his work is continually getting better and I am sure the collection of his cartoons, when published, will show his keen observations of a generation of Iranians who have been displaced from Iran and often times misplaced in diaspora, a generation I call "Accidental Emigrants."
While the new generation of Iranian-Americans are thriving and growing and making news, a generation of aging Iranians, parked in front of television sets showing satellite programs, is increasingly missing from the Iranian culture, literature and art scene. Mahmoud's art reminds us of the nostalgia, the sadness, and the decay which is happening within a particular group of Iranians in the U.S., and this is art that is necessary.
I like this humor.
