Lions Club pin

Made for Iranian convention in 1970's

Wikipedia: Lions Clubs International (LCI) is the world's largest secular service organization with over 44,500 clubs and more than 1.4 million members in 201 countries around the world... Lions Clubs International was founded in the United States in 1917 by Melvin Jones, a Freemason and Chicago businessman. Jones asked, with regard to his colleagues, "What if these men who are successful because of their drive, intelligence and ambition, were to put their talents to work improving their communities?" Jones' personal code, "You can't get very far until you start doing something for somebody else," reminds many Lions of the importance of community service>>>

Hello Everyone,  I just

by Rose1Line on

Hello Everyone,

I just happened to find this website, and I am a 32 Scottish Rite Mason.  Although I was born in the US, both my dad and grandfather are 33 Masons, from Iran.  From my perspective, this organization is not as sinister as some like to believe.  It's for those that have eyes to see.....

Thanks

free masons

by Glen (not verified) on

I guess I can help you along a bit. Masons go back to the building of temples in Jursualem. The were stone masons that did the bulding. Freemasons are not nessasary stone masons but of men of good standing and age of majority. Masonary is not a cult but a group of men that believe in a supereme being. In North America the word "free" has pretty much been droped from Freemasonary, now more common Masons.
You are most welcome to read the book that Masons use in thier lodge to do all thier work. Most libraies have it and it is called Lestor's Look to the East.
The world would be a much better place to live if we all lived by that book.
I hope I helped you Glen

Yes, dear. I have some information about them, although maybe not as much as you do, but enough to respect them.

My uncle was an active member back in Iran 70's....He had to leave the country just after the revolution only because his name came up in the newspaper as a Franc-Maçon's member.

He tried to explain us what it was all about. At that time I was too young, too angry to understand him.

Now, I do.

To Dariush and Souri.....

by Sam (not verified) on

Ba salaam, to Dariush and Souri. Both of you are right. But, as I understant, this name came from English not French, and this group started in England first and gradually grew up to the other parts of world. As Dariush mantioned, this name (Free-Masons) means ( BANNA HAAYE AZAD )initially came from English. If you guys need to know more about this colt, I suggest to get a volume of book( FRAMASONERI IN IRAN ) written by ( Esmaeel Raeen ). In this book, the author has a very good history, and especially, how this current came to exist in Iran. In this book, you can see a long list of all Iranian members' name like Hoveida, Shareef Emaami,...etc.
I hope it helps. Take care

Claims

by Abol Danesh, Author (not verified) on

I think the best approach to Freemason phenomenon is not to claim openly to be a member of it after the due cost and benefit analysis...such claim often limits one's access to resources and hinders membership to other organizations humanitarian, scientific, political, or otherwise...

After having said... let me now go make some more money to see if I can afford hop into a better neighborhood in the back yard to have both a luxury pool and hot boiling jagozy...

With ocean views? oh baby you hit it right on the nail of my all desire...so when the sweet hearts come over for play I can show off all my achievement...

To Souri

Good question, I am not certain of the exact ethymology of the word FreeMason except that it originated from the Macon's in France and or Italy which formed a fraternity or some kind of syndicate to start with.

It later turned into a club of people that share the same value systems and general views on humanity. It was and is not a Religious Sect contrary to what it seemed to suggest because of the rituals and certain tests required apparently to become a member.

The Power of the FreeMasons was subject to much speculation some based on fact others on pure imagination.

I don't think however that the loge of the Freemasons as secret as it used to be. But I am not really qualified on the subject. I do know that some Iranian polticians were supposed to have been Freemasons amongst them the late Amir Abbas Hoveyda. Again it should be noted that it is more of a philisophical club than a center of power and decision making nor are they linked to any criminal or treachourous activities.

Today some even claim openly to belong to a given Loge which was not the case in the past. If you have any extra feedback I am interested to learn more about the exact history of the Freemasonry and the exact meaning of the name.

Best,

DK

Term is Franc Mason

by mahmoudg on

To mean, honest, sincere, free, clean, strong, depending on whic context it is used in.  The term franc, fra, free all depicts that masons dedicate themseleves to all that is good about life, i.e. spirituality, belief in divine diety, working to better a fellow man's life, etc. etc.  Its start gose back to biblical times and has a lot of Persian mysticism, sufism embedded into it.  Freemasony has a lot of the Old Persian and Jewish influences in it.

Freemason ?

by Souri on

Dariush,

I read your article and also checked it in wikipedia. Wondering if the term

"Freemason" is correct. As we both speak French, we know that term in French is usually "Fra-masson" which

has been created by French people.

I know the origin of the movement and how it has been built and why the term "Fra-Masson".

Just I can't get WHY it has been changed into "Free: libre" in English vs."Fra: pour"

in French. Do you have any idea ?
