This sounds like a bad short cut (to increase profit) which went terribly wrong. Nevertheless, with relatively minor modifications, this overpass can be used as a U-Turn point at the highway. I am curious to see what the original design intended to accomplish.

Thank you for the explanation. I think however that more warning posts and Under Construction signs and maybe even fluorescent lights from yards away were needed to clearly indicate that the bridge is not usable yet.

It is very sad to see that lots of Iranians here are just waiting for an excuse to rant and ridicule whatever goes on in Iran.

OBSERVANT OBSERVATION OF DISRESPECT

It amazes me to see how you Iranians can't have an intelligent and objective and fair conversation when relating to each other. It seems that you American Iranians are all too ready to cut down and demean your fellow countrymen. Even though I do not speak or read Farsi; when my husband showed me this video and I saw people ignoring a gigantic barricade and going around it - I thought.... what are they doing????? Here in America, most people driving on a highway, seeing a barricade with words of warning - heed that warning and DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TRAVEL IT.

P.S If you don't want to go on my husbands bridges that he worked on as an Engineer - When in Missouri or Illinois - avoid using the bridges and use a boat to cross the Mississippi River to and back from Missouri and Illinois.

Mr. Bridge and Hwy Engineer

Dear Irandokht
Looking at the video, you see two exit ramps on each side of the highway with each one entering the highway on the other side, but the so called reporter only shows one ramp in his drawing. The video also clearly shows that there are two lanes on the bridge separated by temporary construction baracades. You can also see on the video that cars are using the other ramp with no problem.
The reporter does not show the other exit ramp so we do not know if there is a "DO NOT ENTER"
sign at that entrance or the superintendent of the bridge has forgot to provide one.
They do not just go out and build a bridge.
First is planning, then design , then reviews,
then placed for construction firms to review the plans and place construction bids on them.
Iranians are one of the best engineers in the world and the worst drivers in the world who
do not follow any traffic rules or signs.
I visited Iran Last month and know how they drive.
There in NO WAY that such a mistake could be made and IT HAS NOT.
I made the same comment on "YOU TUBE" last night,but they have taken my comment off today.

As A Bridge Engineer in California I don't believe this!

Sorry I didn't read any of the comments here. I can only say there could have been at least two reasons for this:

1. This is not really an on-ramp, it is only an off-ramp, but carelss iranian drivers are using it as both!!! Also, it appears that the road that is supposed to be connected to the bridge is not completed yet and these people are using it illegally! AMAZING!

2. The Design Engineer could have been from AFGANESTAN or Takestan! Seriously, no engineer would and could design a bridge like that. There is extensive design, check and review performed before it goes to the construction. I think there is more than what meets the eyes.

I really cannot say the Iranian Bridge Engieers don't follow any specification or design standard, since on my last trip to tehran i was impressed with the quality of design and construction of bridges in Iran. It was a far cry from 1990 when I had visited. Where is this bridge located?

DO NOT ENTER means you can enter from the other side, as it was shown in the video, the ones who entered from either side would not be able to continue their route without the danger of facing incoming traffic.

The reason it says "khatareh marg" is because they realized they goofed and made that sign, now you're using that as an excuse to slam the people instead of the engineers?

You don’t need to be a bridge and highway engineer to realize something is seriously wrong here. Unless this is an elaborate gag, the sharp-angled-car-overturning loop aside, anyway you look at it the exit ramps face incoming traffic.

The Ultimate Irony

Ha Ha! Do you want to know what the ultimate irony of the situation is?! Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a civil engineer, specialized in Traffic Transportation Planning!! How funny is that?!! And building roads and bridges is something he was trained to do, earning a Ph.D. in the field! Are we surprised that he has completely destroyed the Iranian economy and Iran's foreign policy?!!

They should just leave that bridge as is, calling it the "Ahmadinejad Bridge." It will be a good tribute to his complete ineptitude and incompetence for generations to come!

The bridge is not FINISHED yet , it is UNDER CONSTRUCTION !
Layout of the bridge is right and is exactly the same as highway interchanges in United States.The reporter does talk about the rest
of the brige and the ramps, but you can see it in the video.
Its the people who have not yet learned how to follow the law of the roads and the signs and avoid using an UNDER CONSTRUCTION bridge project.

Two teams build the bridge!!!

It seems like there were two teams building the bridge. Each team started from each end of the bridge and the bridge was completed in the center! (Like the submarine tunnel in the English channel connecting England to France.) One of the teams must have been reading the blue prints upside down. Possibly a Tork civil engineer who graduated from Aggie University :-)

Mr. Mohandesin or Memarbahiha made a mistake in not mergin the bridge into traffic flow.

Why it happened in Ghazvin?

The shape of the HWY-overpass is similar to something and if the construction workers and enginers were from Ghazvin then the specific shape of overpass might led them to the distraction!!!

Our educated engineers who are in charge of road and bridge construction dropped the ball and not one person said lets fix this before we pave it? after it was paved, nobody could actually close it so people wouldn't use the bridge?
