Am I sensing some speech impediment in this guy? Can anyone tell me if there is a field called speech therapy in Iran, since Mr. Daie can benefit from it. In America, it's customary to treat your child's speech problem by the first grade, but it sure was not the case with Mr. Daie.

Daie is way above Parvin. He is an international player. How can we compare the two. I think Parvin is jealous.

Ali Daei's redemption

by yetanotherexmuslim on

Dear God,

I know I fell out of favour when I stayed on the team beyond my sell-by date and screwed up the team's chances to get better scores.

I know I was corrupt and for the sake of business "een akhara dameh regime na mardomo ro didam"

I know I used my influence to keep control of the team members even though they were the new talent and a chance for better results.

Please tell Agha next time he is sitting in that well waiting for the hidden Imam to stop being an A hole and back off our beloved football.

Please make me the golden boy again, and please give me the intelligence to say something more profound in a TV interview.

Oh last thing, please send this interview Guy to hell!

I like Daie....He is one of a kind...king of goals

by Ye Irani (not verified) on

The young Iranians are just doing fine in Iran. They believe in themselves and they prove they can be as good as anyone!

Ajnabi asskissers of kharej-neshin think Iranians can do nothing. Be hamin khial bashid.

Don't get up gentlemen, I'm only passing through. But a lobbyist in Persian can be translated the following way: "Party Bazi Kon". In this case, Khoda is a very "partieh koloft".

I believe the word you are looking for is "khalvat".

Now that we're at it...

by Majid on

Sorry if it's off subject but,

One of the English words that I can't find an equal for it in Persian is:"PRIVACY" as in these sentences:

When in this back yard, you have privacy, or this camp site has privacy.

I know the words " HORMAT" and "HARIM" and "KHOSOOSI", but neither one applies here.

How you say those in Persian?

Anyone please?

I may start a blog on this subject soon, the words in English/Persian that have no equal in the other .

"Lobby"

by Ali P. on

Thanks for all the suggestions for the term.

The proper translation is done when the meaning, as well as the     'load' of the word is carried over.

Example:

"Construction worker" is "kaargareh-saakhtemaan", because it carries somewhat the same respect that "construction worker" is warranted, unlike "amaleh", that is more of a cuss word.

"Lobbyist" is a nice title, and has certain degree of prestige, and it sounds positive, and those who do this job for a living, don't mind being called one.

"Kaar-chaagh-kon" or "Dallaal", from what I understand, has a little negative connotation. I never met anyone who presented himself as such.

Oh, well, maybe we just don't have the right word in Persian. Maybe someone, on this site, can come up with a good, catchy, cool word for "dallaal".

He is our best choice

by MKB (not verified) on

I have to say this was a really amuzing interview. You seldom see national coaches grilled in this manner by a sports newscaster anywhere in the world. Daei was forced to come up with the nonsense about lobbying god and as this was for domestic consumption, he had to say things that Iranian football fans could digest and relate to.
Having said this, I am sure you will all agree, when it comes to anything requiring any type of organization concerning Iran and Iranians, there are far too many chiefs and not enough Indians. Everyone has an opinion and everyone is an expert.
In Iranian football however, Daei is about the only person who has a chance to deliver. He can modernize the game in Iran and install the mentality and the discipline that he was exposed to in European clubs in our players.
Young people in Iran do not have much, football is a big escape for a lot of them and Daei should be supported.

Daie was a successful soccer player and will do just fine

by Soccer Nation (not verified) on

Ali Daie is probably the greatest soccer player Iran has had. Why? Because the guy is determined.

He managed to played for a big European Club Bayern Munich of Germany and scored goals against top European teams including AC Milan of Italy. He is the world's leading goal scorer and he was much better player than most of current Iran players even after his peak at the age of 37.

He is also a successful business person and educated. All these achievements mean only one thing; the guy is determined and is qualified fully to lead Iran's soccer team.

Mafia lobby?

by Ahora (not verified) on

The current situation in Iran reminds me of the ruler of Qajar dynasty. Sultan Ali Kamaneie established a mafia system in Iran and assigned their own people in all kind of position to run their ditry business.

I Like Daei !!

by masoudA on

No actualy I lied - just like him lying about lobbying God (to which he confessed at the end of the clip!!) - I no longer like him after the last WC.

But asking Ali Daei to solve our football problems is like asking Ahmadinejad to fix our economy.    We are a country in which Planning, Systems, Organization, Research....... means jack - so what else but to god should we look to ?

they can't find a better interviewer

by salim on

Why can't we find a better interviewer. This guy who says we have to have a higher "olgoo" than Kuwait, should also raise the bar in his interview skills. Mr. Ferdosi, I recommend watching Charlie Rose show for a year before demanding others to have a higher standard. You can't be so ADD and not allow the person to get his point across.

Not bad...not bad.

Now, what do you call it when it is a noun?

For example:

-Sir, you look so sharp. What do you do for a living?

-I am a lobbyist.

would be:

-daash, ajab fokolkeraavaatee! Shomaa cheh kaareh baasheed?

-Bandeh, arz shavad keh, .... am!

(fill in the blank)
