Opel, 60's

Popular car

I came across some pictures of Opel automobiles and memories of '60's of Iran came back. Thought it would be a nice quiz to see if anyone recognizes the car. A lot of Iranians had it while I was growing up.

DKW???

by jamshid on

I didn't even know that " د کا و ه"  stood for DKW. I always tought it's "dekaveh" or something similar. No wonder why I couldnt google this thing. The one I that I can remember (but very vaguely) , looked a bit like a Jhian. Thanks so much for the picture.

Does anyone remember those 2 cylinder (I think) small funny trucks that had a very strange engine sound?

LOL! Opel, the face of Vigen huh? That made me laugh so much that I should thank you for making my day for an otherwise brutal day!

DKW was the car that today is called AUDI,this car was always OPEL!

DKW was almost the shape of VW bug ( Ghoorbaaghe-ee),with the famous logo of 4 circles on the trunk!!

by Majid on

Grwoing up in Tehran,as a child I always had this feeling of looking at the cars and resembling a familiar face, don't ask my why and how,but this particular car always reminded my the face of VIGEN(the singer)! sounds weired huh? I know!!

Thanks for bringing back memories!

DKW

I still can remember the smell of this car. Had a two cycle engine and it did not feel like a real car at all. Real noisy with a funny sound. You had to mix gas and oil at the gas station. Can you imagine driving it now? Imagine trying to smog check one of those. Here is the picture of the one I remembe. According to informaiton it is a 1 liter 3 cylinder engine.

Opel Rekord

by cyclicforward on

I remember this car well. I believe it is Opel Rekord 1960-1963. The red two tone color that is shown in this picture was very popular and you saw it everywhere. It was quite an unremarkable car. On uphills sometimes it could not make it. The alternator was weak and it was barely enough to power the lights and had a four cylinder engine which was quite weak also. For the life of me I could not understand why people bought it. I also found this link that might help

Nice!

My parents owned one of those! That was before they bought a Peykaan. The color was blue and the "saghf" was white, just like the one in the picture. I haven't seen even a picture of one these Opels in 3 decades! Thanks, it brought back many good memories of my childhood.

P.S. Does anyone remember the car called "Dekaveh"?
