The Middle Eastern giant is ready to rebuild Iraq. Iran owns over 85% of Iraqi economy.


Tehran Mayor: Iran ready to reconstruct Baghdad


Baghdad, Feb 24, IRNA - Visiting Tehran
Mayor announced Iran's readiness to reconstruct Baghdad at a dinner
party thrown in his honor by Head of Supreme Council for Islamic
Revolution of Iraq, Abdel-Aziz al-Hakim.

According to IRNA reporter in Baghdad,
Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf while briefing the audience on grand plans
conducted, or underway by Tehran Municipality, said, "Tehran
Municipality is ready to cooperate with Baghdad Municipality in
projects aimed at reconstruction of Baghdad, as soon as the required
preparations would be made."

Hakim, too, during the meeting referred to
Iran's wholehearted support for the Iraqi nation, appreciating the
Iranian nation for their all out support and assistance.

The Head of the Supreme Council for Islamic
Revolution of Iraq welcoming Tehran Mayor's generous proposal, asked
for speedy cooperation of Iran in reconstruction of Iraq's capital city
that has a seven million population, adding, "Tehran Municipality's
cooperation is particularly needed in development plans, technical
works, and rural construction."

Qalibaf also had a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maleki on Saturday evening.

Tehran Mayor arrived in Baghdad on Friday
morning on an invitation extended by Baghdad Mayor and is scheduled to
meet a number of political and municipality officials in Baghdad and to
visit the general and rural services offered in various districts of
the Iraqi capital city.
