Photo essay: Persian Gulf Environmental Art Festival

During the last week of 2007 (Dec. 25 -29, 2007) the 2nd Persian Gulf Environmental Art Festival was held on the coast of Hormoz Island, in the Persian Gulf. More than 80 artists gathered on this beautiful island to create environmental installations and sand sculptures. The festival also included a number of art performances [Read more in Persian or English]. Photos by Mansour Vahdani, R. Balochi, Ameneh Raisi, Gizella Varga Sinai and Ahmad Nadalian. Samira Sinai filmed the event and plans to create video art.

Very interesting lead slide. Notice, please, how the name PERSIAN GULF is written as if for Iran and Iranians themselves. If this was an attempt to say the Gulf if Perisan Gulf, then shouldn't the name have been written in the sand in a way that it could be read from the sea. Just a thought. I must be fucking nuts.

remembrance and so much more that these little black figures on this page could never describe. I love those cyclinders seals! That type of art has been around for thousands of years!

My people freed this island from the grip of the portuguese - so glad they did!
