I received a wonderful call from Monika Skerbelis, Director of American Pavilion’s Emerging Filmmaker Showcase, to congratulate me on becoming a finalist. To say that I was overly excited would not do my sentiments any justice, recieving this tremendous news is a great sense of achievement for me as a first time director, writer, producer. At the same time in amongst the celebratons, it is also a time to reflect and contemplate why I began walking the path to make this movie in the first place. A moment in history, that was engulfed in tragedy, an inspiring legacy that Neda left behind. I made a vow to uphold her legacy and memory and; that of all the Neda’s of the world who don’t have a voice. No matter what language we speak, I hope that voice can be reflected in this movie 'I Am Neda'. That can be the power of film. No matter what subject matter you are dealing with and that's what I've hoped to achieve.”

The American Pavilion Emerging Filmmaker Showcase at the Cannes Film Festival held May 16-27, 2012. Exact screening dates for 'I Am Neda' and schedules to be confirmed in the coming next week.

Fictional dramatisation of Neda Agha Soltan's Life

I am not sure whether Neda's memory is best served by a made-for TV quality film. Although, I haven't seen the film my gut instinct tells me its another The stoning Soraya M type film.  I hope this is not some schmaltzy bopic filmed in dodgy locations which you know is not Iran and leaves you laughing out loud. I understand that this is actress Neda Sadighi's first film and I sincerely hope that she proves me terribly wrong. Sorry for my lack of optimism and wish her and the film all the success it deserves.
