When Israeli protest leaders see eye to eye with Iran and Libya

JERUSALEM — Leaders of Israel’s social protest movement yesterday called for more demonstrations this Saturday while warning that riot-swept Britain shows what can happen if public discontent gets out of hand.
The move came as Libya yesterday joined Iran and Zimbabwe in voicing scathing criticism of Britain over its handling of four nights of riots.
Isaeli protest organisers yesterday called for more protests over the coming week, but not in Tel Aviv, scene of mass rallies last weekend.
“We decided not to stage demonstrations in Tel Aviv but to call for rallies across the country,” activist leader Stav Shafir said.
Libya yesterday raised its voice in a scathing criticism of Britain over its handling of the riots.
The government of Libyan strongman Muammar Gaddafi called on Prime Minister David Cameron to step down, saying he had “lost all legitimacy.”
“Cameron and his government must leave after the popular uprising against them and the violent repression of peaceful demonstrations by police,” Libya’s JANA quoted Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Kaaim as saying.
“Cameron and his government have lost all legitimacy,” he said.
“These demonstrations show that the British people reject this government which is trying to impose itself through force.”
