An Iranian retailer on Kensington High Street has been fined by magistrates for selling caviar of an unknown source.

Zaman Ltd, operating as Zaman, was fined £2,000 at West London Magistrates Court on April 19 after admitting selling untraceable caviar.

The shop was also ordered to pay costs of £3,520 and a further £175 for the destruction of the food.

Zaman was inspected by environmental health officers from Kensington and Chelsea Council in March, after police officers found a substantial amount of caviar on the premises.

Nearly 10kg of the food, worth around £13,000, was seized by the officers as the shop had no documentation confirming where it had come from but was selling it as Iranian and Russian caviar.
