Deputy
Commander of Iran's naval forces Admiral Farhad Amiri says the Navy's
subsurface vessels will be outfitted with missiles in the near future.

“Using
torpedoes has its own associated limitations,”...“We are moving toward
equipping our submarines with missile launching systems,” Amiri was
quoted by Fars News Agency as saying on Sunday.

The high-ranking
naval commander also hailed Iran's peculiar achievements in
non-conventional warfare and said the country's enemies were surprised
by its progress in asymmetric tactics.

“For example, some of our
speedboats are able to locate and fire missiles at targets while moving
at speeds as high as 50 to 60 knots (100 km per hour),” Amiri said.

Last
month, the commander announced plans to manufacture and deploy new
500-ton submarines to patrol the country's southern coasts.

In
recent years, Iran has made important breakthroughs in its defense
sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military
equipment and systems.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly
assured that its military might poses no threat to other countries,
stating that Tehran's defense doctrine is based on deterrence only.
