Iran self-sufficient in production of medical radioisotopes

TEHRAN – The Atomic Energy Organization
of Iran (AEOI) deputy director has announced that Iran is now
self-sufficient in production of medical radioisotopes.



“We have reached the final stage in the production of medical
radioisotopes… and now there is no need for importation of medical
radioisotopes,” Mohammad Qannadi said on Sunday.

He also said that the project to produce industrial isotopes is
already well underway. “Hopefully we will also attain self-sufficiency
in this field within the next few years through the tireless efforts of
the Iranian experts.”

The official described as “matchless” Iran’s scientific
progress, saying the nuclear achievements are result of scientists’
efforts that have turned the threats posed by the sanctions into
opportunity.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Qannadi said that Iran has already gained access to the complete nuclear fuel cycle.

Radioisotope is a radioactive isotope which is used in physical and biological researches and therapeutics.

The radioisotopes which are produced in Iran are mainly used for
diagnosis and treatment of various cancers or are used to alleviate
cancer-related pains.
