TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iran said on Saturday that it has tested the third generation of centrifuges successfully.

The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Chief Fereidoun Abbasi said, "production of enriched uranium with the purity of less than five percent is going on with high efficiency through the first generation of centrifuges."

Abbasi speaking in a ceremony to mark the National day of Nuclear Technology on Saturday also added Iranian nuclear scientists have managed to design the third generation of centrifuges and tested them successfully.

Abbasi then continued two separate units are to be launched at Natanz enrichment facility to produce enriched material for Tehran research reactor fuel.

He added the country is building pieces of equipment to start production operation of U308 from UF6 and that Tehran research reactor fuel would be provided based on the time schedule.

Abbasi noted the country has built the germanium-gallium radiopharmaceutical generator for the first time.

"Gallium-68 is one of the important and functional radionuclide in nuclear medicine which could be used to identify diseases and cancers," he said adding, "the generator is mass-produced only in two countries in the world, but it is made in Asia for the first time by Iran."

Abbasi also assured that Iran abides by all of international commitments including the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
