Arab League backs Libya no-fly zone

The Arab League has backed the idea of a no-fly zone over Libya, as rebels continue to be pushed back by Colonel Gaddafi's forces.

A special meeting in Cairo voted to ask the UN Security Council to impose the policy until the current crisis ended.

The UK and France have pushed for the idea, but have failed so far to win firm backing from the EU or Nato.

Libyan rebel forces have meanwhile suffered fresh setbacks including the loss of the key oil port of Ras Lanuf.

Reports suggested that the rebel front line had been pushed back even further back, towards the town of Ujala.

The Arab League vote for a no-fly zone was opposed only by Syria and Algeria, reports from the Cairo meeting said.

ARAB LEAGUE IS A JOKE!!!

by zuruz on

I thought Arab league became history due to dictatorship of Arab leaders. Since Dictator Mubarak was the head of Arab league and has been over thrown along with Dictator Bin Ali who was ousted and Gadhafi as well as the rest of Arab dictators are in shamble & falling one after another by their own people power. Tsunami of change from dictatorship to democracy is working hard in the Persian Gulf &Middle East and Africa and elsewhere. I believe the new Arab league soon will be established with true democratically elected Arab leaders. Why doesn’t the so call Arab league send their brave Arab boys by using their oun treasure and their thousands of fighter’s planes to fight Gadhafi troops themselves? What are they waiting for? AREN’T THEY REALY WAITING FOR AMERICA TO JUMP IN AND AMERICAN KIDS GET KILLED ALONG WITH LOSS OF AMERICA’S TREASURE!!!
