TEHRAN — Gasoline prices nearly quadrupled on Sunday and riot police guarded filling stations around the capital as deep cuts in subsidies on fuel and other essential goods took effect.

After midnight on Sunday, the price of subsidized gasoline jumped to 38 cents a liter from 10 cents a liter. Similar increases went into effect for compressed natural gas and diesel fuel, with subsidy reductions for other commodities expected to be phased in gradually.

Terrorist regime cuts subsidies

by Simorgh5555 on

You don't need sanctiosn to wreck the Iranian economy, Ahmadinejad is just doing fine without them. We should cautiously welcome this. Iranians respons to crisis. We must tighten the noose round the regime until we suck the last breath out of it. This is the kind of event which galvanises Iranians into action. Free Iran!

by afshinazad on

what a tragedy for our nation and the country, we destroyed our own life for cleric lies, without thinking how the hell is possible that this old cleric is promising free gas free water free homes and cash in your account, really Iranian were so stupid to trust the man which never heard of, what is this subsidy? I thought already we had this subsidy cut years ago. Isn’t this another sham that these clerics trying milk us for their agendas, this is not a cut but it is a largest TAX increase in our history because Islam loves taxes and always you have to pay for it in the name of Allah? Increase in energy sector will increase prices in every other sector and high gas price will affect every sector of economy and keeps coming more increases on the way and destroying middle class and they know that with very well middle class is the threat to them. I wished that people will join with one voice against this regime and get our country back from these monsters.
