Israeli defense officials say the Jewish state is reviewing the sale of advanced weapons systems to longtime ally Turkey after Ankara's Islamic government, its eyes on the Muslim world, canceled joint military exercises scheduled for later this month.
A decision to cut off military sales to Turkey would be a major blow to Israel's defense industry. It is the most sophisticated in the region but depends on exports to keep production lines running to equip Israel's armed forces.
The growing strains between the two countries, stemming largely from Ankara's increasing criticism of Israel's occupation of Palestinian territory, have imperiled a strategic alliance forged in 1996 that cemented military and intelligence ties.
Despite the mounting tension, the two countries have continued to do business over the last year even as Turkey has sought to project itself as a regional power and a defender of the Muslim world.
Israel is one of Turkey's main military suppliers and over the years has refurbished a wide range of Turkish equipment, and sold Ankara all manner of electronic equipment in which Israel's defense industry specializes.

To our traitor, Mr. Kashani
by Shah Ghollam on Wed Oct 14, 2009 10:55 AM PDTUnlike braindeads in IRI and you people, who are burning with jealousy about Israel's achievements,
Among those Israeli achievements are-
-Occupation of a people
-Massacaring defenseless civilians en mass
-Locking up innocent civilians with no verified crimes and with no representations.
-Economic deprevation pf Palestinians
-Creating gettos in occupied lands to use its residents as a "cheap" labour for Israel's economic expansions.
-Systematically bulldozing homes in occupied lands against international law to expand Jewish settelements.
....and a lot more similar Achievements for the past sixty years. Such "achievements" must be celeberated by some Israeli citizens wrapped in Iranian flags such as Mr. kashani. My best advice for Mr. Kashani would to go back and live in his highly achieved society in Israel. Frankly, his unlimited attachments to Israel will never do him any good in having any time allowing him to be even a half hazard Iranian as he pretends to be.
Boldly expose Zionists, help humanity!
Ostaad and Shah
by Farhad Kashani on Tue Oct 13, 2009 06:05 PM PDTOstaad and Shah Gholam,
At least Turkey leaders show they have a brain, common sense and sense of responsibility. While not engaging in anti Semitic policies, or sacrificing Turkey for a blind animosity with Israel, or opressing its people in the name of anti Israelism, it has taken a moderate and correct stance on the issue.
Unlike braindeads in IRI and you people, who are burning with jealousy about Israel's achievements, who have no common sense or love for Iran, and hold some sick and twisted anti American and anti Israeli desicres. I'm ashamed to call you Neo Comms Iranians.
Good riddance...
by Ostaad on Tue Oct 13, 2009 02:07 PM PDTIsrael has milked the Turks long enough. It is a shame shame that a charter member of NATO, that happens to be a majority Muslim country, has to rely on Israel to "upgrade" its tanks and other military gear.
One of the "vital" upgrade Israel did for Turkey's fighter jets was to "upgrade" their REAR VIEW MIRRORS!
I'm not kidding.
