Ex-President in Iran Seeks Referendum

Iran’s reformist former president Mohammad Khatami called Sunday for a referendum on the legitimacy of the government in the wake of last month’s disputed presidential election, Iranian Web sites reported.

Mr. Khatami’s comments amounted to a bold challenge to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has dismissed the opposition’s claims that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s landslide victory on June 12 was rigged, and has ordered protesters to accept it.

It is unlikely that Iran’s hard-line leaders will accept the referendum proposal. But the fact that Mr. Khatami proposed it at all suggests a renewed confidence within the opposition movement.

DK, you're right...

the Mr. Pahlavi has been "suggesting" that, but the difference is that HIM is a useless slacker whose name has not been uttered ONCE by those whose feet are on the ground in Iran participating in the uprising. Khatami on the other hand, was elected by a large number of voters in Iran twice - besides he lives in Iran not next to the CIA visitors parking lot unlike your prince charming.

Only a amateur comedian like you calls the pathetic, lifeless bunch of shahollahi bottom dweller fringe, who have done nothing since 1979 except pouting, the "real opposition"!

You guys can't hold a candle to any opposition let alone a real one.

How Do You know ? ...

What Credibility does Khatami have ? ...

That's WhaT YOU Claim. There are No Polls or Reliable Polls in IRan that would sustain YOUR Claim that RP2 has no credibility.

In Addition Iranians would accept ANY System that would differ from the Islamic Republic and ITS DISASTROUS Report Card in ALL fields.

Khatami and the so called Reformists are part of the system that is now denying their own Rights.

The only issue is that RP carries no credibility with vast majority of Iranians so his advocating for a referendum helps against having one in Iran.
