Huffington Post:/ Iran Uprising Blogging (Thursday July 9)

3:15 PM ET -- Allah-o Akbar! It's nearly 11PM in Iran right now. The NYT reports:An Iranian blogger wrote on Twitter about one hour ago that in the Amirabad district of Tehran, "people are all on the roofs" to resume the nightly ritual of shouting "Allahu Akbar!" ("God is Great!") -- a form of protest turned against the Shah in the 1970s.  3:19 PM ET -- "Today they sounded very different..." Via reader Allie, Tehran Bureau has accounts from all over the city. Here's one: "All the friends I spoke to today have been relatively depressed for the past few days. But today they soun... >>>

Extensive documentation of today's protests

by rosie is roxy is roshan on

Huffington Post and the New York Times Lede Blog both have "minute to minute" documentary of today's protests including many videos and commentary sent in by individuals who participated. I lihe huffpost ia little better so that's the one I put in the blurb section and provided the direct link to.

But the NYT Lede blog section titled "Latest Updates on Iran Election Protests" //thelede.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/07/09/latest-updates-on-iran-election-protests/?hp

is also very good. However if you go to this one, you should be aware that it says at the top that to get to the second page you have to go down to the bottom of the page and click on the pagination link. But it's not true. You just go down to right under where the section on the protests ends, not all the way down to the bottom of the page.

Update:

Update: Huffpost just posted a new one on top, "apparently" from today in Isfahan, the only one I've seen outside of Tehran, of a rather brutal beating by Basiji.

Overall it seems that in Tehran in the earlier part of the day there were the batons and so forth, but none on video and not nearly as brutal as previously. The item I posted below on the Amir Kabir dorm attack (with my comment) from niac is however extremely disturbing,.Later on the police and paramilitaries seem to have shown restraint and the protesters also showed the good sense to turn around when they were obstructed from marching and regroup elsewhere. By nighttime, it seems the mood was very positive and invigorating.
