US Media Campaign to Discredit Iranian Election

Was the Iranian election a fraud? That’s what our great western media sources want us to believe. While scanning through the coverage, I could not find one mainstream news article which covered the election results in an objective, unbiased manner. Either prominently displayed in the title or first paragraph, each of the articles suggest the election was a fraud. The obvious question arises - If their electoral system can’t be trusted, why were they watching the results so “closely” in the first place? I’d probably find better things to do then obsess over the results of a rigged game, but hey that’s just me. It’s worth noting that Iran, unlike the US, does not use electronic voting machines which are easily tampered with. They actually have paper ballots. It’s also important to point out the health of their electoral process. They had an 85% turnout! We, “the champions of democracy” turnout only a fraction of that percentage for our presidential elections. In fact 2 out of 3 American citizens find something better to do during election day.

I personally don't give a hoot what the corporate media says...

about Iran, the US, or anywhere else. But in this case the general reporting in the US is not far from what I can dig out from many sources, which don't have an axe to grind about Iran, on the Internet as well as what is directly coming out of Iran.

I need to acknowledge the official's remarks about not receiving "written complaint" about the election results. That is precisely the Achilles' heel of the opposition claims. I put the blame for the lack of proof and evidence squarely at Mousavi's doors for not backing up his objections regarding the results by providing facts, figures, and solid reasons to support his claims of fraud and/or coercion. Instead he sends a letter to the Rahbar and his gang with a "request" to declare the "election" results null and void! No facts, no evidence, and no reasons, just a hunch!

Looking at the pictures of all those beaten and bloodied Iranians who trusted this political jelly fish just because they are hunkering for freedom and human/civil rights so desperately, makes my heart ache.

On the other hand the good that can come out of the current situation is this can be the last straw. Let's keep our fingers crossed that it's the case.

Having said that, I don't think Ahamdinejad's "victory" is implausible. I just don't think the real margin is as high as the authorities have announced, considering the massive turnout that no one seems to doubt.

Jaheho,

Do you really believe in your heart of hearts all these civil protests are the result of "emotions", and there's no rationale for so many people to doubt the "election" results? How do you know what the undeniable "truth" is? Just the Ministry of Interior's figures, announced with lightening speed, is sufficient to convince you of Ahmadinejad's "election" victory? In that case, I admire your faith in THAT system. You must be among those who are convince George Bush "won" his election too.

Finally the emotions will subside and the UNDENIABLE truth will shine!

I see Zakaria now who tried his best to goad Christian Amanpour (who herself is anti-Ahmadinejad, but she never belittles herself by too much garbage) to get propaganda out of her, and HE FAILED!!
