Obama bows to Saudi King

During Thursday’s meeting of the G20 in London, President Barack Obama appeared to bow before King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia.  Blogs, message boards, and talk radio are aflame with people who feel the move is insensitive to America’s revolutionary past and Saudi Arabia’s current funding of Islamic terror groups.  President Obama insists he was simply picking up loose change to help support the American Economy.

The bowing of President Obama

by George (not verified) on

I believe that normally we should bow down to no one except God our Creator.Thomas in The Holy Bible said after the death for sinners on the cross and the resurrection from the dead the third day and he hadnt been there right away when Jesus appeared he said,My Lord and my God and bowed down to Jesus. He alone is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords who is worthy of worship.Since we all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.Jesus sinless blood was shed as the only atonement for sins God would accept. In order to have eternal life now and in heaven someday we must repent of our sins against God our Creator and trust Jesus Christ as our personal Saviour from sin and hell fire forever for them.Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.Acts 16:31.That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. From Gods preserved word, the Authorized King James Holy Bible of 1611.He alone can forgive all our sins and save our souls.Look to him today! For furthur information,www.Fbn.org,AntrimFaithBaptistChurch.com or www.swordoftheLord.com or www.fellowshiptractleague.com , Thank You,very much,Sincerely; And please publish to show religious freedom for all religions.Thank You.

DEAR .IRANDOKHT; MUCH ADO ABOUT MUCH ADO

by rosie is roxy is roshan on

Dear Irandokht,

I replied to your post below but my reply has been deleted. It contained no objectionable language, however it did postulate my thoughts on why you wrote your reply to me in a less than favorable light. So I will reframe my thoughts in a way that should not in any way, shape or form be construable as worthy of deletion.

Mojgan, as is well-known, you generally read things here on a daily basis and often comment on them, not infequently shortly after they are posted. It is also well-known that you give equal time in your comments to both news feeds and blogs. This news feed was posted because I found it as a comical response to a blog posted by David ET on Obama's bowing, and indeed, you posted your comment shortly after I posted this feed.

However Mojgan,, you did not post your sound advice on the irrelevance of this feed on David's blog. You also did not post your sound advice on MPD's satirical blog on the same topicc, with bowing in the title, which he posted the following day. And this is not the first time such "discrepancies" have occurred regarding your attention to items (whether blog or comment) which I have posted vs. your non-attention to them on other people's postings. In other words you make more "ado" about my "ado" than about other people's and ALWAYS HAVE, ever since I returned here in June after a hyatus, and first had the pleasure of interfacing with you on this forum.

Dear Irandokht, unless you have any questions, implicit or explicityl meaning any reply, that is really all I have to say.

it's human nature mo chara

by anonymous fish on

bush did such an extraordinary job of being offensive to the majority of americans.  his crimes were many and his ignorance world class.  this isn't republican bashing... it's bush bashing.  don't defend him naively...:-)  has there been any other president who has fucked up so completely across the board, especially a two-term president?  this is NOT about party differences.  i actually commend you for maintaining your faith in the GOP.  they need members with some common sense and intelligence... maybe YOU should run for president...:-)

i'm just saying that in the long run, obama bowing to a saudi king is pretty low on the totem pole of catastrophies.   let's see how he handles the important issues.

anyhoo.  a happy easter to you and your family.  have you hide the easter eggs yet?

Kaveh Nouraee

Not you specifically

by Kaveh Nouraee on

You're not copping out. The general position is one.

Why does it have to be where it's acceptable to continue to slam Bush basically just for drawing breath at this point, yet to point out an error made by Obama is a greater "crime" than the actual error?

Maybe I wasn't clear before. My bad.

anonymous fish

and you didn't hear me say that either!

by anonymous fish on

i'm not copping out.  i'm just saying he made a mistake.  it's not like it's going to be the last one either.  but i can and will deny any "margins" for him being greater than anyone else.  that is just a little bit too much whining if you ask me.  "well yeah, he won but....".  get over the but's.  it DOES sound like a sore loser.  why can't i say the opposite... that the standards set for obama are higher than they were for bush.  oh i forgot, bush HAD no standards. anyway, you know what i mean.

you're not naive so i don't understand your concept behind mistakes and options.  assuming you voted for mccain, did you expect his presidency would be flawless... would you NOT accept any mistakes he might have made?  or simply... do you think ANY presidency has been without mistakes?  heck... i'll go you one better... do you think any one period is incapable of making mistakes.  of course not.  so please don't expect that our only-human president isn't going to make some either.

no copping out.  just facts.

Put The Can Of Whoop-Ass Down, Lady

by Kaveh Nouraee on

and no one will get hurt!  :-)

Seriously, one of the points is that this HUGE double-standard exists. The guy is human. Even though I totally disagree with his policies, I'm not slamming him as a person.

But, it can't be denied that the standards set for Mr. Obama, and the margins for any errors he has made or may make later on, is far wider than those that would otherwise be given.

Inexperience was one of the reasons why Obama had many opponents in the 2008 campaign. Well, that inexperience is being used by supporters as an excuse for a protocol blunder.

Making a mistake isn't an option. It wasn't before, and when it happened we saw the results. But saying things now to the effect of "at least it wasn't as bad as the last 8 years" is a cop-out.

anonymous fish

well yeah

by anonymous fish on

that's all fine and dandy and i'm not disagreeing with anything you're saying or anything david is saying. but damn.  is it or is it not a dead horse now.  there IS no going back as you have said.  what do you want or expect him to do, for pete's sake.  he screwed up.  you want to impeach him because he bowed to the saudi king?  if not, then just get over it.  if you're going to keep on about it, then i have to ask you WHY?  just to bash obama?  i don't think that's your intention really but come on.  what IS the point?  or rather, hasn't the point been made already?

what is this "making a mistake is not an option" crap?  since when?  did this start only after bush left office?  i don't EVEN want to go there!

now you watch it, little mister!  i just bought a whole new case of whoop ass and i keep one with me at all times!

Protocol Must Be Followed

by Kaveh Nouraee on

Had this been something inconsequential, say perhaps, the president momentarily losing his balance as he approached the Saudi king, then the Office of the Chief of Protocol would have gone to great lengths to state as much.

However, if you notice, that office has been eerily silent on the matter. So silent, you can actually hear the sounds of light snoring coming from the guard in the shack at the entrance to the State Dept. parking garage.

While Buckingham Palace released statements stating there were no violations of protocol, it is clear that Obama bowed at the waist (and with a bent knee) to King Abdullah.

The Queen of Great Britain is purely a cermeonial monarch while King Abdullah is a ruling monarch.

Buckingham Palace states that there are no specific rules outside of courtesy. The Queen is addressed as Your Majesty once, then subsequently as "ma'am".

The only people who are supposed to bow to King Abdullah are his own subjects. That means Saudi citizens.

While some may wish to minimize this issue, writing it off as "this was the president's first trip overseas", the fact that it was his first trip means it carried even greater weight (public image-wise) than any future visits might. Not because of some misguided BS that Obama is there to undo any damage, (because his words in Europe risk causing even more damage later on), but because it was the one chance to make a first impression. The other 19 leaders at the summit have already sized him up, both as a man and as the president. There are no "do-overs".

Making mistakes, errors in judgment, violating protocol, no matter how minor it may appear on the surface, is simply not an option. If it is improper, then it is improper. It has nothing to do with what has happened in the past, and it has nothing to do with political affiliations or leanings. If Mr. or Mrs. Obama did something wrong or inappropriate, it shouldn't be given a "free pass" because they're inexperienced. Nor does it have anything to do with race, an allegation that I personally find offensive and insulting.

If it's wrong, it's wrong.

Ostaad, it has a Smiley in the supertitle and you didn't see the humor, you see?

I may not know all that much about the Prime Minester fo Turkey's last meeting wth the President of Azerbaijan, but I know people.

i know people very well. Even when they're pixel people. i do know them.

rosie is roxy is roshan

It's okay Ostaad, and you're so much more

by rosie is roxy is roshan on

advanced than most of your hamvatan bloggers and feeders here that that's why I asked you to mentor me for the feeds. And I was going to say if you responded that I'd only read it if you put I'm sorry in the title but you did it by instinct you see? I've told people that before and all they did was keep yapping and I kept saying No I won't and then fifty people descended on me like vultures to claim I'm ruining the thread. (I exaggerate, of course).

Ostaad you didn't see it because you didn't want to. Please read Sam's comment on this thread and my reply to him and you will understand. And read the link I gave you to the labor blog. It is SHAMEFUL that somoeone who is not Iranian, does not read Persian and has no specific connection to Iran through family, job or having ever lived there or even visited should be the one to write this expose.

This is my comment to Samsam. The blogger is a poor borderline paranoid schizophrenic whose paranoia centers around the bahai and the jj thing is largely though not exclusively due to that issue.

//iranian.com/main/blog/nur/iranian-com-sourcewatched

Then soread the word because I'm right. You just did it to me. I'm a minority here of one. You didn't just do it here, this was just the worst. You do it when you Haaretz as a source of exposes on Israel i injustice to prove that ALL Zionists are evil. You just did it now with the rightwingers so called. They're the only ones, except that poor Old Left girl who had to leave the site because she's all alone among these pseudo-whatevers who don't give a damn if everyone gets hanged by a crane as long as the three remaining Iranians in Iran are "autonomous" from big Western 'capital"-pure Marxism, and labor is the FIRST they'll see rot. They didn't even stop to spit on that blog and you KNOW they clicked on it if only to see what crazy Rosie had to say about striking Iran.

Then please spread the word becaue I don't know how much time I have left here.My work is very nearly done. That's not what I wanted but that's the way it is. I'm blogging on all this very soon but it's really all I have left to say.

Ostaad

Rosie, sorry girlfiend I didn't get the funny part of it.

by Ostaad on

I thought this was just another one of those attempts to emphasize what Obama did because the other guy was an "Arab", and if he had done the same thing with the Emperor of Japan nobody would notice. That's what happens when you assume things.

I personally think what had really happened was that Obama had one of those little farts that get so close to the hole pushing to get out bothering you like hell.  But you keep it in waiting for the right moment to let go hoping it won't make a lot of noise and it won't smell bad (let's not forget he always has secret service people standing close behind him). I thought Obama, the smart man that he is, found the right moment to take care of the business that makes one miserable to the point of desperation. Therefore his bending over was not really a bow, it was to get RELIEF.

As for the cruelty and other stuff, I'm really sorry to have left that impression on you. I did not mean for my post to hurt you in any way.

you know what's wrong with you people? so many of you here? you're cruel. and that's the reason why your country is the way it is. you all made it and you got what you deserved. but you know something? the new generatio, they got your namber, that's why they all sscorn you, and they are the iran of the future, because they are determined never to make the mistake of being like you again.

by anonymous fish on

oh roiban... i love it.

at first i was a little pissed off.... what the hell is she thinking posting another blog about this.  it's been discussed TO DEATH.  but i couldn't resist reading it and now i'm glad i did.  i hope people do just to see how ridiculous the whole thing is.  as i said to david, i'm american and i'm not insulted.  thought it was silly and maybe inappropriate but not INSULTING for pete's sake.  it was a poor decision.  get ready people... it's going to happen again.  he is NOT perfect.

i know i know... after bush ANYONE would look good and here comes obama... good looking, intelligent, sophisticated, good looking, educated, concerned, responsible... did i mention good looking?

no wonder we thought he was a god.  but reality hits hard and we're left with just a man (a good looking man) but just a man.  he WILL make mistakes.

big deal.  get over it.

(did i mention he was good looking?)

much ado about nothing

by IRANdokht on

With all due respect, although your entry is light-hearted and humorous, this subject is being blown out of proportion. There's been a couple of news entries and even blog about this! Don't we have more important issues to waste our time on?

The way I see it is "no big deal", at least not as big as it's being made. Obama looks like he's stumbling there or it could have been a moment of faux-pas that happens to everyone who is put in a highly stressful situation. It was his first trip overseas as the US president, his mission was to undo the damages done to Americans reputation internationally and maybe he was overwhelmed, who knows!

I remember Bush senior throwing up on the lap of the Japanese prime minister (shit happens) and his son chewing and chatting with Blair casually with his mouth full (disrespectful), even rubbing German chancellor's back (ignorance and arrogance).

I wish people would lighten up. It's tiring to hear that Michelle shouldn't have touched the Queen , Obama should not have bowed to the King...  or is this due to race of the kings and queens?
