One More Farcical Tour of the Middle East by a Secretary of State

It was almost dreamlike, watching Secretary of State Clinton make her visit to Israel, one that can be called the first of many trips pretending to encourage peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.  It’s a dream I’ve had several times over; one needs only to simply fill in the names of the various U.S. Secretaries of State, say that they’ve met with the Israeli leadership and with Mahmoud Abbas, (who is about as popular with the Palestinians as Rush Limbaugh is with Democrats), and that no progress was made

Well I agree with many things he say and at least he reminds me to hope for the best but prepare for the worst, but I think there are a couple of things he's misssed. Hillary can't say or do certain things for various political reasons but Britain is doing them for her. Britain has already given the green light to European-initiated war crimes trials of Israeli leaders and has announced it is exploring negotiations with Hezbollah which is one step away from Hamas. I really don't think this is Britain chafing at the bit of US domination, I suspect it's a collaboration. Good cop, bad cop In fact the minister who told Parliament he approved of the war crimes investigations used Kerry's report as the justification. And I could go on and on. The Assad thing has been happening for a couple of weeks and once again, I don't think it's Assad chafing at the IRI bit. I think what we're looking at here is an ateempt at "'peace by proxy" because war by proxy has utterly failed. No one won in Lebanon and no one won in Gaza. Everyone lost and most of all the civilians. And this is less and less tolerated by the international community. . Israel's become like a rabid dog and has to be reined in I Obama cannot support another massacre of Gaza. He will lose his base and his values. Essentially he has allowed Clinton to become President of Foreign Affairs. Whether you like what she does or not, this displays a kind of humility. So the US and IRI continue to yip and yap at each other but the nuclear issue is a done deal, IRI HAS nuclear power It's all theater. Bluffing. While the real work is starting to take place in the wings, that's what I think but what do I know? I think the biggest thing the author misses is that IRI and U need each other desperately to solve the Afghan problem. So I'm going to continue to hope for the best. But I'll listen to the author'x cautionary tal and be prepared for the worst.
