US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told President Shimon Peres on Tuesday morning that Israel had every right to defend itself against "cynical" rocket attacks from Gaza.
"There is no doubt that any nation, including Israel, cannot stand idly by while its territory and people are subjected to rocket attacks," she said.

by anonymous fish on Wed Mar 04, 2009 04:46 PM PSTwell once again i'm happy that i can please you...:-)
yes my friend. it IS people who kill people. guns don't operate all by themselves. :-) i don't think that's american logic. it's pretty much accepted throughout the world of common sense.
try some vanilla ice cream with your apple pie... it IS scrumptious!
Thanks AF
by khaleh mosheh on Wed Mar 04, 2009 03:58 PM PSTAs I understand it you are saying (of course using the figuritive you- you appreciate) its poeple that kill poeple not guns that kill poeple.
What a delicious piece of american logic- as scrumptious as american apple pie.

by rosie is roxy is roshan on Wed Mar 04, 2009 12:23 PM PSTin the feed I posted the other day on the Afghan humanitarian cridid, a poor vwoman in a displaced persons camp says in the video that the Taleban purposely position themselves among children to do their fighting. Now Hamas is no Taleban (almost no one is) but the point is that this tactic DOES exist....but whenever anyone says "human shields" are used by Hamas or Hezbollah, they get creamed Now I'm not saying they ARE used, I'm saying should they get CREAMED for suggesting the possiblity...I know, I know, whichi side am I on?

and in that you're so concerned about the geneva convention's statements, you might want to remind hamas of a few of them. if you really think israel is the sole perpetrator of atrocities, it's hardly worth discussing further. there is no such thing as sole blame in warfare. innocent people die. it's an unfortunate fact of life. and while i don't condone israel's lack of real concern for that fact, i will not place sole blame on them either. that's the problem. you want to point fingers and never consider your own participation. i use the word "you" figuratively of course. you want to blind yourself to the fact that hamas has done far worse harm to the palestineans than israel could ever do. what a shame. what a waste of effort. and how very very pointless.
Thanks for my Eureka moment, AF

by anonymous fish on Wed Mar 04, 2009 10:38 AM PSTwhat does one have to do with the other? i've never condoned violence by ANY extreme faction. be it zionism, nazism, islamism or any other "ism". it's not the "ism's" that promote violence. it's MAN. and all in the name of God. what a joke.
but i'll say it again. if anyone attacks israel, she will defend herself. if anyone attacks the US, she will defend herself. if anyone attacks iran, she will defend herself. it's simple. don't do it!!!!
as rosie pointed out... clinton did not give a green light in any way shape or form.
btw. this girl wasn't in her early teenage years... she was 8 YEARS OLD.

I ask you right here and right now to elaborate on your allegation and prove beyond any doubt that you KNOW me and that you have evidence that I am an Anti Semite. Otherwise I would very much like for you to retract your statement and apologize for defaming my character.
Roxi Jan,
I appreciate you candor and honesty in defending me. This is one of the main reasons that I have always told you how much I appreciate your threads and comment, even when I do not completely agree with you.

Oh I know Israel doesn't want peace, the regime doesn't
by rosie is roxy is roshan on Wed Mar 04, 2009 12:34 AM PSTwant peace, the hardliners don't want peace, jpost doesn't want peace..that's not my point. My point is that Clinton didn't give a green light. Now jpost has a whole section, you know, like international, economy, culture called IRAN THREAT. That's not a newspaper, that's a sensationalist propaganda rag. I mean it would be like the New York Times having a section called Axis of Evil or Red Menace.
So when you read jpost all you get is what they think and/or want you to think. Unless it's about..oh I dunno..heart surgery..
now Haaretz on the other hand is a newspaper. And they are liberals and they want peace. They want the settlers deported for example..so they can stop making trouble at the borders..
so if jpost thought Clinton was telling Peres toir go invade Gaza, it would've been the opening paragraph of the article and it would've been critiqued with all kinds of reactions, you know, counteropinions from experts
That's all I'm saying...
Dear Rosie,Israel do not want peace!
by Anonymous Iranian (not verified) on Tue Mar 03, 2009 11:51 PM PSTI am not anti Israel or pro Arab, but since Israeli creation she has been in war with her neighbors. She even attacked Iraq's nuclear power plant which was good for Iran in a way.If Israel wanted peace all she had to do was to give up Golan Height for peace with Syria and give up Shiba Farm for peace with Lebanon and go back to 1967 border to have peace with Palestinians, but Israel simply do not want peace.
Aziz, Ayhab is unquestionably not anti-Semitic. I vouch for
by rosie is roxy is roshan on Tue Mar 03, 2009 09:49 PM PSTthat with my life. And again, Zionism and Judaism are two separate things. However I do get your point. I post a lot on the Afghan humanitarian crisis, and I've posted on Pakistan and Kashmir and Sauid Arabia, but I didn't post on Sri Lanka although I'd read about it because it seemed..removed..from the main focus here which is really the Middle East (overwhelmingly Iran and Is/Pal, I seem to go futherther beyond the borders than most here do...). However, point well taken. What a load of crap Rosie. Post what matters. Stop eating sh-t. i shall find a good item on Sri Lanka right away.
Can you spare a moment of your time???Or these are not worth it?

Red light, green light, 1, 2, 3....ok let's see how Haaretz
by rosie is roxy is roshan on Tue Mar 03, 2009 05:51 PM PSTcovered this.
TITLE:
Clinton asks Barak to open Gaza crossings
----------
Clinton requests opening Gaza border for "massive" humanitarian aid (US just pledged almost half a billion), after sending him an "angry letter."
Next, met with Olmert who told her he wants "stability and quiet" in the region and Clinton can help..
"
Met with Netanyahu who said they must think creatively, move forward and create a different reality.
Met with Livni, joint news conference on absolute necessity of two-state solution.
and Peres, nothing reported.
."
further commentary:
Netanyahu doesn't want coalition government and won't commit to two-state solution, Clinton wrote him angry letter last week and just said there is "no time to waste" in forming independent Pal. government. Two more US envoys are going to Syria. Commentary extensive.
Aash, okay! Here's comment to Peres, halfway down the article:
"There is no doubt that any nation, including Israel, cannot stand idly by while its territory and people are subjected to rocket attacks," she said, criticizing the rocket fire as cynical.
-And then she went on to insist on Palestinian statehood.
_________________________________
Further, commentary: huge US aid package for Gaza, article voices speculatoin about Netanyahu's malleability. But he's presenting a hard line for the elections. netanyahu Netanyahu Netanyahu and then some tidbits about Clinton's travels.

HAARETZ DID NOT FIND THE STATEMENT OR THE PERES MEETING PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT.
Trust me, if they had, they would've said so and put it further up in the article.
Of COURSE Clinton has to say they have a right to defend their national security. What's she gonna say, they DON'T? It is the SAME OLD LINE that's been used since FOREVER.
JERUSALEM POST WANTS TO FAN THE FLAMES OF WAR AND CONVINCE PEOPLE THE US WILL SUPPORT IT BECAUSE NETANYAHU'S BASE ARE HAWKS. It is yellow press, sensationalism.
HAARETZ HEARD CLINTON'S STATEMENT ON NATIONAL SECURITY AND YAWNED.
You can't read jpost without reading Haaretz. jpost is a RAG, haaretz is a NEWPAPER.
Ayhab, your question in your comment is fair but it doesn't mean Clinton gave a green light to anything but diplomatic rhetoric. jpost is just yellow press, it's yellow press.
PS Sorry, I lost the link and while looking for it found that the headline at haaretz.com on a new article is that Clinton insists that peace without diplomacy is impossible.
.
I dont get it...
by khaleh mosheh on Tue Mar 03, 2009 05:24 PM PSTQuite rightly, there is indignation if arab girls are married off in early teenage years
//iranian.com/main/news/2009/03/03/top-saudi-cleric-ok-young-girls-wed
But sure its fine if they are blown to smithereens by IDF using American manufactured weapons. Anyhow according to the Geneva convention article 33 collective punishment of civilians is absolutely prohibited
//www.unhchr.ch/html/menu3/b/92.htm
So just because you ,AF, think its OK-under the international law it is still a war crime. - no doubt you will be cheering on the IDF in their next murderous assualt.
yes, yes, and yes
by anonymous fish on Tue Mar 03, 2009 03:51 PM PSTjust as long as it's understood that if palestine attacks israel, it's israel RESPONDING to an attack. it won't make any difference if it's a rocket or a whatever. if palestine is going to provoke israel, it better be prepared to take the heat. do you disagree with that in any way?
if israel attacks iran, iran will respond. and vice versa.
as long as we understand the rules, all is cool. i just hope palestineans remember that as well. you can't strike first and then run because you hit someone bigger and stronger and they hit back. that's not a bloodbath. that's a death wish. and unfortunately the INNOCENT are paying the price.
Mrs. Clinton
by capt_ayhab on Tue Mar 03, 2009 02:40 PM PSTDoes Iran have the same right to protect herself when attacked?? How about Lebonan? Palestine?
