A bomb apparently carried by a motorcyclist exploded at a mosque in the southeastern Iranian city of Zahedan on Wednesday but caused no casualties, the Fars news agency reported.

The blast occurred in Zahedan's Al-Ghadir mosque complex, the report said, quoting provincial police officer Salah Asgharpour.

The officer said initial reports indicated that the bomb was carried by a man who arrived on a motorcycle and then tried to gain access to the mosque.

"He failed to enter the mosque," he said, adding that the device was then placed in the kitchen, where it exploded.

Asgharpour did not explain how the bomber managed to plant the bomb in the kitchen.

"The explosion caused slight damage" to the mosque, Asgharpour said.
