Livni sparks Arab 'transfer' row
BBC
12-Dec-2008 (18 comments)

Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni has sparked controversy by saying a Palestinian state would provide "a national solution" for Israel's Arabs. Politicians from the minority Arab community have demanded she clarify if it means that Arabs citizens will face loss of rights in Israel or expulsion. Israeli politicians have long grappled with the issue of a growing proportion of ethnic Arabs in the Jewish state. "Transfer" has been mooted explicitly only by far right-wingers in Israel.

True face of fascism. The more time passes the more true face of fascists in ME is becoming clear. In the west, they call it "democracy".

Zion

Factually Wrong

by Zion on

My dear fellow, I want you to realize that you are in error regarding facts in this matter. Israel was not created by Britain, quite the contrary, it was created by fighting Britain by Jewish volunteers and its independence ended the colonial power of England over that part of the world. The Balfour declaration, that you have probably heard a little about, does not constitute the authorization for a state of Israel. It merely acknowledged the historical ties of Jews to that land, and expressed the willingness of the British court to allocate living space to Jews who want to live there, on the precondition that Arab life and rights are in no way affected by this, which was impossible, and soon afterwards the British basically threw this promise to dust bin, and sided with their precious arabs, insisted on placing the anti-semite al-Husseini as the grand mufti of Jerusalem, stood by while arabs massacred Jews in Hebron in 1929 and elsewhere. They forbid Jewish migration to the land of Israel during and especially after WWII, and arrested thousands of Jewish refugees, who were deported from the land and kept in camps in Cypress and elsewhere. Arabs loved the British to stay, while Jews were fighting then to leave. And finally, britain also abstained from voting in the UN regarding Israel's independence.
So my dear, I suggest you study a bit and view the FACTS before passing judgment.

(PS. Pakistan was formed for no other reason but the persistence of the Muslim league and in many cases the very person of Jinnah. They didn't want to live under any kind of political rule of "najis" infidel Hindus. Typical muslim attitude all around.)

Zion,The man with gold rules!

by Anonymous Iranian (not verified) on

I am not anti Jews and anti Israel and I think Iran may have more in common with Israel than with Arab countries, but the man with gold rules and in our case Jews.Jews may have been living in Israel way before Palestinians, but British were the one who created Israel by force and British were also the only one who could have created countries and changed borders. We have seen that in Palestine by creating Israel and in India by creating Pakistan and in Iraq by creating Kuwait and in Iran by creating Bahrain. But others can not do the same thing. We saw example of it in Iraq, when Saddam tried to get Kuwait back,so if you are rich or have support from a powerful country you can almost do anything even if it is for a short period of time.

Zion

Is that right?

by Zion on

"Transfer" ? who talked about transferring them by force? I see.
Didn't you read the typical BBC article you link to yourself?

'There is no question of carrying out a transfer or forcing them [Israeli Arabs] to leave.'

Those are Livini's words in that same article. Have you no shame?
When it comes to Israel and Jews, it is all shameless distortions and typical lies. Constantly. Just amazing!

No one in Israel, except ultra rights Kahanah remnants who are political praiahs, talk of any transfer. If they want to stay in Israel, fine, but they need to stop whining. They need to stop cheering on their rooftops, in complete freedom, when Saddam's rockets or Nasrallah's toys hit Israeli houses. How about that? How about their allegiance to the state? Did you of this? How much do you know about Arab life in Israel anyway? I don't mean the usual crap, but real first hand knowledge? They have all the constitutional rights under a democratic system. Their life is much better than arabs elsewhere and this is a fact. They cross the border to Egypt and immediately start speaking Hebrew to each other to show off, and yet when when Israel is bombed the start cheering, in all freedom, on their rooftops. That's their level of allegiance to the state. Americans saw a bit of the love after 9/11, before it was covered up by the PC nonsense. What do you think would happen to Mexicans in the US, if they constantly cheered whenever America was attacked, or American soldiers were killed. They wouldn't enjoy it, I'll tell you that much.

"Their ancetsral land". Aaah, so that is the rub, is it? What is it you are saying? Israel should be wipe out completely because it has occupied arab's "ancestral land"? Come on out and say it. Don't mess around with nonsense crap about democracy and "transfer". Say what you really mean mister.

Here is some news for you. It so happens, Israel is also Jews ancestral land. It has been for millennia before any arab set foot on it. How is that when settlers are evacuated to leave a Judenrein Gaza for your lovely brothers, no one talks about the stinking arab racism that is behind all this mess in the first place? Israel unilaterally withdraws from disputed lands, an important Israeli politician acting as head of state endorses a separate palestinian state and how it can be a national solution for arabs in that of the part of the world and immediately the usual crocodile tears are shed. So what else is new?

Aziz,

You're wrong on this one! The editor/owner of this site or any other media has the right to express his/her own ideas, and that doesn't mean that he/she tries to impose standards on others. Haven't you ever read/listened/watched editorials of any other news media?

Israeli society in a free fall

Nothing surprises us anymore when it comes to how barbaric the Israeli society has become. When a political leader of a country says such a thing you can imagine what the rest of the jewish population think.

The pen of a journalist is sharper than the politician's tongue.
Lets hope for more moderation and less self-righteousness from the owner-editor of this site- when dealing with hot button touchy issues of the middle east: Israel's rights and of US presence in the middle east.. The editor sets the standards for other Iranians who comment.
(Obligated to add my admiration for this site and its creator...)

Stupid daareem taa stupid

by Jahanshah Javid on

Aziz Jan! I say stupid things all the time. It won't affect anyone. But we're talking about a member of the Israeli cabinet who could very well be the future prime minister. That's the difference.

Ahmadinejad says stupid things all the time and he gets condemned and rightly so. Remember he suggested that Jews should be transferred to Alaska? Was that just "stupid" by your logic, or completely irresponsible coming from a head of state?

Leaders must be judged by the highest standards, whether they're Israeli, Palestinian, American, Iranian or from any other nation.

Livni said something stupid. Well maybe. The Arab MP in Knesset has asked her to clarify. Iranian.com wasting no time, condemned Livni. Good show.

Now you guys remember Pakistan? The moslem wanted their own homeland to keep away from those unclean Hindus. So what is wrong with Livni's idea offering to Arabs to leave bad bad Israel and go have their own homeland governed by Moslems. Is that really that bad??. Apartheid?? Iranian internet lynch mobs are easy to organize.

Oppression has not worked!

by Anonymous Iranian (not verified) on

Oppression of one race against another has not worked. We have seen it in USA against former African slaves,in South Africa against black population,in former Yugoslavia against Albanians and in Israel against Arab population .No matter how much technology a country like Israel has they can not win over Palestinians by force.Israel may be able to break Palestinians bones, but they would not be able to break their spirits.

Jahanshah Javid

Wrong comparison

by Jahanshah Javid on

AnonymousIrooni, I am not comparing the treatment of Arabs in Israel with Arabs in Arab countries or in Iran. There's no doubt that the peoples of the Arab world enjoy very little freedom and less democracy. The situation of minorities in Iran is also far from pretty or acceptable.

I am simply stating that in a democracy -- which Israel so proudly claims to be -- this sort of talk by a leading candidate for prime minister about removing, or excuse me "transferring", a whole group of people (a couple of million?) from their residence to somewhere else is shocking and nothing short of ethnic cleansing.

Zion & JJ

by AnonymousIrooni (not verified) on

You both confuse me. Aren't these facts:

1)Zion, isn't it true that Arabs Israelis are discriminated against? What are you talking about Zion? Why is it OK for Livni to talk like this? Wouldn't it be like an America politician talking about blacks going to Africa for their national aspirations? What would happen to such politician in the US in this day and age with such stupid statements- even if black were not so loyal to the American state? And

2) JJ, isn't it true that Arab Citizens in Israel have more freedoms and rights than other Arab citizens of other Arab countries (freedom of speech, political freedom......)? In fact JJ, Arabs in Israel are treated better than our own minorities in the IRI. Don't you think so?

Seems to me that both of you are a little extreme with your views on this subject. I hope to get a response from both of you.

Jahanshah Javid

I wish

by Jahanshah Javid on

... you were an Arab in Israel, Zion, and enjoyed all the freedom and equality and fair treatment they receive, the same as Jews!

And let's assume, Palestinians do get their state. What if Arabs in Israel, who have lived on that land for centuries, don't want to leave? Who is going to "transfer" them and how?

The most democratic state in the Middle East... bah bah. Looking forward to the day when the Islamic Republic of Iran and other undemocratic states learn from the Israeli example :D

Zion

Now it is ethnic cleansing?!

by Zion on

Let's assume hypothetically that when arabs whine about discrimination in Israel they are being honest. It is not the case, but for the sake of argument let's assume it since many here are infatuated with this rubbish. SO w=once they get their own land, wouldn't moving there constitute a "national solution" for them that they were hoping for? Now even this becomes "ethnic cleansing"? Is there anything Israel can possibly do that you bunch do not immediately paint as darkest black?
If you were only half sensitive and "concerned" about your own people... .
Pathetic.

Ahmadinejad's prediction comes true!

by Mehdi on

It is a sad day for this Western educated bunch of religious door knobs to find out that Ahmadinejad's prediction was accurate when he said Israel has no future. An apartheid regime will not work in 21st century, no matter how much nuclear bombs they buy or how many US politicians they bribe.

Where is Fred to poetically explain this ethnic cleansing?
