A U.S.-Iranian Conversation

The United States and Iran are talking to each other about the elimination of an entire category of weapons of mass destruction. That is a good thing. On the eve of Barack Obama's inauguration, it shows there is nothing in the DNA of the two nations that precludes dialogue. The discussions - often bruising but never to the point of a breakup - are proceeding within the framework of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. That's an unwieldy name for something the world should cheer. The OPCW brings together 185 nations working in near total obscurity toward an April 29, 2012, deadline for the final elimination of the scourge that has brought death and agony from the fields of Flanders in World War I to the Tokyo subway in 1995.

To Mehdi: you are selectively forgetting this obvious fact

Israel has never called for Iran's destruction or wished death on Iran/Iranians as Iran has for Israel REPEATEDLY during the last 30 years.

Experts warn Barack Obama of a nuclear Iran

by sickofiri (not verified) on

The Brookings/CFR report

“Diplomacy is not guaranteed to work: it is not,” Richard Hass, one of the authors said. “But the other options – military action or living with an Iranian weapon are sufficiently unattractive for it to warrant serious commitment.”

But the authors warned against an “ABB” – anything but Bush – approach, urging Mr. Obama to build on some of the changes in direction over the last two years. “Change for sake of change is not a good idea,” Mr. Hasse said. “Great powers have to be predictable.”

Yes. That means the mullahs should be able to predict that failure to comply with the international community’s demands will have dire consequences.

This is amazing news!

Funny how these big powers have double standards though. They want weapons of mass destruction to not be used except by them! Israel tries to show Iran as the trouble maker but Israel is the worst in the area in terms of wanting and producing and selling weapons of mass destruction. How ironic.
