Iraq jails 'terribly overcrowded'

The BBC has seen evidence of serious overcrowding and poor living conditions in one of Iraq's prisons.

In Baghdad's Rusafa facility, about 150 prisoners were being held in a room about the size of a school classroom.

Many are still being held although they have never been charged, because the judicial system is too overloaded to cope, the BBC's Andrew North says.

The interior ministry admits there is a problem, but blames the security situation for the thousands of arrests.

'Terrible conditions'

Our correspondent was taken to Rusafa prison, located in the east of the Iraqi capital, by interior ministry officials after he had asked to check allegations of torture and abuse.

The only ones you're

The only ones you're fooling with your cheesy propaganda headlines is yourself and your few remaining Islamist Socialist IRI supporter friends.

1- The prisoners in Iraq are imprisoned by the Iraqi government, not the U.S. There are about 20,000 only of them imprisoned by the U.S, which I agree, U.S has no right to go to another country and imprison like that, but, nonetheless, they're not "U.S prisoners".

2- Iraq at the time being has a democratic system and constitution 1000 times more modern and democratic than your beloved IRI's.

3- Maybe you need to scroll down and see the news posted here couple of days ago about the increasing number of prisoners in Iran under your beloved IRI regime, which has turned Iran itself into one big prison. Isn't it sad that you worry about Iraqi prisoners, but not about your own Iranian prisoners who are dying under this regime?
