Fatemeh Habibi Zad is Iran's first female storyteller. She is known by her professional name Gord Afarid, which is the name of a heroine in the Shahnameh.

The art of reciting the epic Shahnameh or the Book of Kings, was traditionally a male domain. Fatemeh Habibizad showed that a woman could do it too, just as the Shahnameh’s Gordafarid showed men how to fight. This is the story of how she came to do it and why she thinks it is important today.

Dear Anonymouse

by IRANdokht on

There was one scene in Shahreh Ghesseh where the camel did some naghaali.

I didn't say shahreh ghesseh was a naghaali and yes Tazieh khooni and Naghali are very different ;-)

Naghalee

by Anonymouse on

I thought I was saying it wrong.  Tazieh is about Ashoura and teflon-e moslem.

Irandokht, shahr-e ghese was something between theatre and naghalee and musical.  I have seen few naghalees when I was younger and they were very cool.

Some of them who were doing the naghalee would go around and as they were telling the story, they would joke with the audience or ask them something and people would giggle and become more interested.

It is just interesting to see a woman do it, in "IRI" of all places!

Here's the actual video clip from jadid online about this lady. She is strong and determined, very admirable.

I have to confess the only naghali scene I had seen was in "shahreh ghesseh" and really didn't get into it... but she is really passionate about it and now that I am older and appreciate Shahnameh on a completely different level, I can relate.

Good to see you back :0)
