"This I Won't Do."

In case you didn't know, Israel has more than one person living in it.  True, it seems we only hear that one peson's voice on this website 24/7, but here you can see Israeli conscientious objectors who were protesting their country's decision to carry out attacks on civilians in Gaza and were refusing to serve in the Israeli army.  Video shows a protest in Tel Aviv on January 8th.  The consequences these courageous individuals face are grave and severe.  One of them says:  "You need a lot of courage to step out of the line and say: 'Sorry, enough.  This I won't do.  In this I won't participate.  This is not being done in my name.'"

The circumstances of this particular military operation were so gruesome, so unfair, and so inhumane, even Israelis whose "safety" and "security" are supposedly being maintained and preserved are objecting and protesting it.  People, don't let one hateful person make you lose your respect and sympathy for other Israelis and for all peace loving Jews all over the world.

Tara - Look at the forrest, not just the trees

by Mehdi Mazloom on

First. I like to thank anonymous commentator for the kind comment. "Fair" is what I am trying to be. While I can not defend the manner by which zion present her thesis. I certainly can, and do understand her passion on this subject. Like myself, she is most likely speaks from horrible experiences by the hand of Muslims (just guessing).

Second. I am sorry, but we love our country, state of Israel. We are not going to apologize for it. Period. Nor are we going to ask the permission or the approval of anyone else (certainly hamas, or the Mullahs in Tehran) whether we have the right to exist as independent, sovereign nation, in a manner which the Israelis, and only them will decide how they govern ourselves, and who they choose to admit and not admit to be citizen. Sound condesending and arrogant?. So be it. again sorry

As to WHY", is a matter of 2000 year old question.

we know our country's history, and harrtage. Have lived (or do live) there, and know our people's hope and asiprations. killing innocent Palestianins is not one of them - unless provoked.

Second. Yes, pals are suffering and suffering a lot, NO DOUBT ABOUT IT. Nonetheless, if for a moment you stop looking at the tree (individual incidences) where you observe the results of Israel's action. Rather, look at the Forrest (the entire conflict itself), spend few minutes and seek the roots of the conflict from a neutral (and secular Iranians are) pov. Then this conflict will take a whole new prospective and new meaning.

Trust me, as one who knows Iran, Israel and US first hand, I can assure you that, this Arab-Israeli conflict is not about piece of land, rather it is about state of mind. It is about way people are educated and their respective mind set.

Why don't you ask yourself, Israel does not occupy an inch on Gaza. Yes, hamas is de facto ruler of that piece of land. Why the hell do they taunt Israel by targeting its civilian centers. In case you are ignorant of the Arab cultural. This is a well known tactics used by Islamists to show the mutilations of their children, and play on people mercy and emotion to gain over their opponents.

How long did you think we could see more then 700,000 of our people live under constant fear of rockets coming from Gaza, terrorizing our children. Is 8 years and 7000 rockets long enough to say basse' di-ge', kha-llass. enough is enough.

While I do not declare myself as "leader", I certainly will lead to defeat any convoluted argument against my country state of Israel.

I know you would not believe to my input (And I don't blame you). But I am sure you will believe to the "victims" own words and deeds shown on video. Whatch and hear the real reasons behind the conflict. Hopefully you and others will come to see the true light of hamas's agenda.

Here is the link.

After you had your fill with that Islamic "intellectual" diate, come back here and will discuss some more about the type of (Hamas) thugs you are defending

While there are many rabbis who would agree with his statements, the failure to identify him and his sect makes it difficult to tell, but he is probably Nutrei Karta.

Thank you for citing your source. The article says that the complete poll would be published in Haaretz on Friday (I assume they meant Friday 1-16). I haven't found this complete poll yet; if you've seen it I would be grateful if you sent the link. Please note that the 1-15-2009 article says " This means that almost all Israel's Jewish citizens warmly support the operation, its goals, firepower and management." This editorializing about the scientific poll is not supported by the content of this specific article. The survey seems to have asked whether Israel has "gone too far." Nothing in the article justifies the word "Warmly" or whether the approval has specifically to do with "operation, its goals, firepower and management."

I am not sure how what Iranian did becomes relevant here, but

here is data on Israeli sentiment on the IDF actions:

//www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1055564.html

"Almost three weeks after the beginning of Operation Cast Lead
and less than a month before the Knesset elections, a
Haaretz-Dialog poll shows widespread public support for the
Gaza campaign. Less than 10 percent see the operation as a "failure."

....

"Despite pictures from Gaza depicting massive destruction and a
large number of wounded and killed, including women and children,
82 percent of the public believe that Israel has not "gone too far"
with the military force it is exercising against Hamas. "

(the poll has an error margin of 4.3 perecent, and the article explains
polling methodology)
======================================================================

In addition, another poll on Jan 9, 2009 showed 76% opposed truce
without Shailts release (already over 600 Pals have been killed)

might i suggest you do your homework before you start mouthing off. you've been here, what... 8 weeks. unless you've spent countless hours going back and reading everyone's comments, you're WAY OUT OF LINE. if you don't have time to read everything, then concentrate on mazlooms history alone. you'll see that he is undoubtably one of the more serious and reasonable bloggers on IC. i might not agree with everything he says but i respect that he is usually fair and respectful. forget zion. while mazloom will defend her rights, i think (i THINK) that he would agree that there is no excuse for her rudeness. again, MY personal opinion is that she harms the cause for israel more than helps it. but you must respect your elders jaana. :-)

this is a dreadful time for virtually everyone on IC. there has been far too much name calling and vile accusations. i myself am not particularly proud that i have reacted so strongly to the hate and hypocrisy, but... if one doesn't stand up for right, they will get trampled by wrong.

you are making judgements for which you have zero basis. why don't you sit back and listen for a change. you might learn something when you remove the blinders of bias.

Before I believe the claim of 90% Israeli support for the Gaza killings I need to see the reports traced to the source, and the source questioned about its data gathering methods. After all, 98.2% of Iranians supposedly voted for the Islamic Republic.

aynak

Unfortunately, the voice of peace from Israel has been

by aynak on

weak this time around. 90% of Isarelis supported Gaza war. The

issue is the illegal settlements and their expansion.

Dear Tara, I think realistically most Palestinian will be happy with 67 border and some compensation for the refugees. However when someone from Brooklyn decides to become a mityashvim, then naturally they are for fueling the confrontation.

Zion here, is part of a collective effort to put a spin on every attrocity committed by the state of Israel which is continously expanding and is taking a free hit at civilians every few years.

I never disputed Israel's democracy.

I never doubted many Israelis' humanity, either.

It is people like you and your loud mouthed ring leader, Zion who have shamed your nation and your religion by supporting a senseless war on innocent and captive Palestinians.

Ahmadinejad is a baffoon, but it seems he is not the only leader in the world these days who suffers from terminal stupidity.

You are not a leader, what's your excuse for your conduct on this site?

This is great, but did you hear the pro-Israel comments in the streets of NYC on the news?
They sounded very similar to the pro war, pro kiliing babies people we have on this site!

But, "BRAVO" to the courageous Jewish people who speak their mind in support of humanity and not atrocity!

You see, there is a freedom of speech in Israel. freedom to agree and disagree with your government action.

Now send this footage to my favorite midget the Akh-mag-e-nejad in Tehran.

Yes, not everybody is bloody thirsty. I pray for the day that Palestinians also decide not to take up arms in this conflict. I could go on but that in itself might be asking for too much.

More power to these brave men and women

by Cyrus_ (not verified) on

when you compare IDF with what Hamas has you can see the military might and the level of protection that IDF personnel have. So for these people to refuse to go to such an unfair war takes a lot of courage.
They have my support. Thanks for posting it.
