To my friend who taught me bravery

I kept writing and deleting.Nothing seems to come out the way I want it. Since I am dedicating my first blog to my good friend Kamran Lotfi who was executed on April 9th 1984. That is all we know .
I was a newly married young woman when I met him ,he was a little older than me and my husband ,but we became good friends with him and his wife and his 2 year old son.
So many nights we would be playing,laughing and arguing about his religion.He would never give up and it used to annoy me.But I liked his sense of humor.He was such a dedicated father and husband.He talked a lot, all the time an extrovert,unlike most Engineers (he was a mechanical engineer).To summerize it ,he was all life and laughter and dedication.
One day my husband went to have an afternoon visit with him. He came back shortly ,looking like he has seen devil.I asked what happened , he said, "they took Kamran".We knew that darkness has taken him.
I can not remember the rest,days were the same and connected to each other.We were all so heart broken.I am not going to write about his beautiful wife and adorable son,since this is their story to tell.
All we heard that he was killed on April 9th, and life has changed for his family and friends.
Many years later, I was at a gathering and a man who just came from Iran was talking about this brave young Bahai man who did not give up under severe tourture,and stood up and did not recant his faith.I asked who he was and he said Kamran Lotfi.My heart dropped so finally we were hearing what happened to him.I could not believe that it was our Kamran who was able to tolerate such crulty and sacrifice his life and the life that he could have with his wife and son, for his belief.
Then I remembered that he was always this way ,standing up for what he believed.This time he stood up to the end.
I will always remember him ,until the end and will learn from him in standing up for what I believe.

I'm postive that ther are thousands of stories like and thousand upon thousands of our best and brightes were killed in the Evin prison. Like you said, your friend was all bout laughter and that is what HE want you to be. Everytime you laguh or enjoy gathering and parties, he wll be smiling at you
Ian is home to 350,000 members of the Baha'i religion. All of these people are denied legal equality by reason of their beliefs. In 1998 a 52 year old man, Ruh'ullah Rohani, a Baha'i, was executed for the crime of apostasy. He did not have access to lawyer and was given oral notice of his death sentence 24 hours before being hung. 6 other Baha'is were on death row that year, but an international outcry saved them from the same fate. A Christian pastor, Hamid Pourmand, was also sentenced to death for apostasy during Khatami's period of office, and only saved by similar pressure. That is the kind of interfaith tolerance that existed in Iran under Khatami, and the Akhoonds talk abou peace loving agent of God!

Babi and Bahai History is filled with stories of men and women who have stood up for an idealogy that their countrymen were not given the open opportunity to grasp at the time, and yet they stood firm to what principles which are today proving to be the only cure for the cancer that is actively destroying our country, arresting its spiritual progress, disillusioning its brilliant and talented youth.
The desperate and the corrupt rulers of Iran, are today frightened by the the steadfast stance of defenseless Bahais like Kamran Lotfi, for they have failed to defeat the power or the Spirit that guides their steps.

He Is Alive

What a beautiful way to start your blog by remembering and dedicating it to this wonderful soul who left such a impression on your heart and your mind. While the rest of us must make our way in this life full of troubles and tribulations, those who have passed on are free. Though the circumstances of the friend you lost and the son we lost are vastly different, we all grieve the same and we all look forward to the day that we will see our loved ones again. We remember and we feel loss because we are mortal, but I have no doubt that all those who've passed on are alive and well and waiting for us on the other side of that door each of us must eventually walk through. You will see your friend again for he is not dead, but rather very much alive. I hope that he is looking out for the one my wife and I are waiting to be reunited with.
Thank you for standing up for me the other day. I will not forget it.
