Thanks Dears, Souri and Orang

for your clarifications and educational comments. Personally Adore the French, they/You feel more "Real" to me at times, in expression of their/Your minds and passions. Even if against the Non-French :o)

To be honest.........

by Souri on

Faramarz quotes are funny but are mostly "American's home-made" and we all know how much the Americans love to make fun of the French. I am all with Orang in this, and I loved the video he has posted below.

Monda jon: Yes I think of myself as an Iranian-French rather than a Canadian one. The reason for this is not only because my husband and sons are born in France, but because I feel more integrated to the French society than to Canada. I was barely 20 when I reached there and tried hard to integrate very fast. for almost 20 years I've been there, went to university the French, worked with the French, and watched the French TV.....Of course I do the same here since 12 years, but in fact there are more foreigners here in Montreal than in Paris......and I don't even watch the Canadian TV unless for the news. I still don't know the singers and actors here Vs. in France not only I knew almost every actors but also knew about their private lives :)

This is all this which constitutes the "culture". So, yes I still consider myself  an Iranian-French. While my sons consider themselves as French-Canadians :)

Orang Gholikhani

Funny quotation and proud of it ;-)

by Orang Gholikhani on

Hi all,

Faramarz quotations are funny and it makes me proud to be Iranian-French ;-)

Actually to undrestand French position, you should remember thier 100 years war against British, Louis's war against Spanish, Napeolonian wars against all Europe to finish with World war I. They have proved being good and brave soldeirs. they had many success and failures as all armies.

Now people know really what is a war and its costs and false reasons. They do it only if they are forced and it makes me proud of living here, even if I came here by hasard. French army image is may be Louis De Funes in Gendarem St Tropez but I prefer it to German's or US image. I prefere French quotation Fais l'amour pas la guerre , Make Love No War.

I recommend you Boris Vian's song :

The Mark Twain quote is a Gem! :o)

by Monda on

Souri jon, what do you think of Farmarz's "few" quotes?! If I may ask, Do you consider yourself French-Iranian or Canadian-Iranian? In either case, do you find the French jokes offensive? (2 be ham zani nist, just an innocent inquiry)

Faramarz

The French Army

by Faramarz on

Thank You Souri, very nicely done.

Here are a few quotations about the French.

'France has neither winter nor summer nor morals. Apart from these drawbacks it is a fine country. France has usually been governed by prostitutes.'

Mark Twain

'I would rather have a German division in front of me than a French one behind me.'

General George S. Patton

'Going to war without France is like going deer hunting without your accordion.'

Norman Schwartzkopf

'We can stand here like the French, or we can do something about it.'

Marge Simpson

'As far as I'm concerned, war always means failure.'

Jacques Chirac, President of France

'The only time France wants us to go to war is when the German Army is sitting in Paris sipping coffee.'

Regis Philbin

'You know, the French remind me a little bit of an aging actress of the 1940s who was still trying to dine out on her looks but doesn't have the face for it.'

John McCain , U.S. Senator from Arizona

'The last time the French asked for 'more proof' it came marching into Paris under a German flag.'

David Letterman

'War without France would be like .. World War II.'

Unknown

'The favourite bumper sticker in Washington D.C. right now is one that says 'First Iraq, then France .''

Tom Brokaw

'What do you expect from a culture and a nation that exerted more of its national will fighting against Disney World and Big Macs than the Nazis?'

Dennis Miller

'It is important to remember that the French have always been there when they needed us.'

Alan Kent

'They've taken their own precautions against al-Qa'ida. To prepare for an attack, each Frenchman is urged to keep duct tape, a white flag, and a three-day supply of mistresses in the house.'

Argus Hamilton

'Somebody was telling me about the French Army rifle that was being advertised on eBay the other day -- the description was, 'Never shot. Dropped once.''

Rep. Roy Blunt, MO

'The French will only agree to go to war when we've proven we've found truffles in Iraq.'

Dennis Miller

Q. What did the mayor of Paris say to the German Army as they entered the city in WWII?

A. Table for 100,000 m'sieur?

'Do you know how many Frenchmen it takes to defend Paris? It's not known, it's never been tried.'

Rep. R. Blount, MO

'Do you know it only took Germany three days to conquer France in WWII? And that's because it was raining.'

French Ban Fireworks at Euro Disney

(AP), Paris , March 5, 2003

The French Government announced today that it is imposing a ban on the use of fireworks at Euro Disney. The decision comes the day after a nightly fireworks display at the park, located just 30 miles outside of Paris, caused the soldiers at a nearby French Army garrison to surrender to a group of Czech tourists.
