Joan Baez concert for freedom and justice in Iran
by Shorts
07-Jul-2009

Dear Friends,

On Sunday, July 12, 2009, Joan Baez is performing in Stern Grove, San Francisco.  As many of you know, Ms. Baez who has been a beacon of American civil rights movement has already expressed her solidarity with Iranian people's struggle for civil rights.  Ms. Baez has performed the famous "We shall overcome", the iconic song of American civil rights in Farsi.

Since those of us who have been following the struggle of Iranian people for their freedom and justice in Iran are looking for venues to express our solidarity with Iranian people in Iran we would like to ask all of you to participate in this concert.  Our presence on Sunday gives a voice to Iranians who have been killed, are currently in jails under the worst unimaginable tortures, and are currently continuing this struggle.

Since the color of green has been recognized internationally as the symbol of current struggles in Iran we would like to suggest to those who decide to participate to consider wearing greens and bring green balloons.

This concert is free and it is similar to a picnic, so bring food and blankets.  While the concert starts at 2 pm we all need to be there as early as 9 am to designate an area for ourselves and find parking.  For more information please visit the Stern Grove website.

We are looking forward to seeing all of you there.

Beh Omid Piroozi

Joan Baez (Blame Sally)

Sunday, July 12, 2009 at 2:00 p.m.
Sigmund Stern Grove, 19th Ave. & Sloat, San Francisco

For over fifty years, folk legend Joan Baez has been drawing social consciousness to the ills and joys of the human condition through her poignant lyrics and dominating vocals. Lending her voice to causes all over the world, Baez’s works have come to represent the possibilities for impact when talent collides with awareness.

The collaboration of four San Francisco area women, Blame Sally represents some of the best of the modern folk pop scene. Their potent poetry set to an eclectic mix of instrumentation is guaranteed to leave Grove goers wanting more.

Joan Baez is a class act. This is my all time favorite tune by her. I hope that she sings it on Sunday.

Green is not relevant anymore

by Fan of color White (not verified) on

And the protests in Iran are not marching with that color including in todays protests for 18 Tir.
Color green, however, is fine if used as a common logo and sign of UNITY and not promoted by Mousavi supporters that by now must have realized he has no intention, ability or the backbone to take the mantle of leadership that protesters were ready to hand him... had he understood what it takes.

Marze Por Gohar in Iran Organizing Nationwide Demonstrations 7/9

by Morghe Toofan (not verified) on

July 5, 2009 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ ----Roozbeh Farahanipour, one of the leaders of the 1999 student uprising in Iran and other members and leaders of the Marze-Por-Gohar (MPG) Party are back in Iran in preparation of demonstrations for the July 9th anniversary; they have joined with thousands of other Iranian democracy activists and are already planning for rallies and demonstrations in spite of the ongoing crackdown of IRI forces and the statements of some IRI factions who are trying to confine the present movement within the tight Islamic and Constitutional limits, preventing cries for free elections and a democratic Iran being heard.

The MPG has called upon the students and the people of Iran to participate in demonstrations at Universities and other locations on July 9th 2009 all across Iran to commemorate the July 1999 student uprising in Iran in a continuation of the present historic movement.

The MPG, advocating a secular democratic republic, a leading force in the 1999 uprising and born within the student movement, will continue to stand alongside the students and the heroic people of Iran, demanding a free election, freedom in Iran and saying no to the dictatorial regime.

MPG plans to carry live speeches from Iran on July 9th, 2009.
