Shamloo and T.S. Elliot

I was recapping on T.S. Elliot poems and then I couldn't help finding a great resemblance to Shamloo's poems.

It wasn't rocket science. Both poets are modernist in their work and Iran of Shamloo was not caged behind a cultural prison. We were part of the Globe then.

I was tempted to do my own research and write a blog on this but before spending time I did a quick search to see if anyone had done work on this. There were many who seemed to have done research on this perhaps for their thesis.

Bakhtak is a demon that attacks at night whilst you are sleeping and sucks your life source. Here a Mullah is depicted as such a demon attacking a sleeping woman.

Tribute to Toofan who has passed away

Oscar (protagonist) obsessed with sci-fi comic and fantasy books, has a quest for true love. He has to deal with identity issues; He is a misunderstood outsider amongst Dominican Republic low class immigrants and he is cursed (Fukú americanus as the book calls it). The plot is the quest (looking for true love) and with the mix of the curse, faceless man etc. it is a Magical realism genre.

I made this image specially for the occasion. The Queen’s image is made from the lyrics of “God Save the Queen”. Although I don’t believe in God nor in principle am I a monarchist! but I do admire the Queen for her years of service and I would be enjoying the celebrations.

The contradictory aspect of faith when they pretend to bring peace and freedom for mankind but in reality force you into a small mindset has been depicted by the dove image.
It says:

I invented DaGod as a derivative of DaDa style. Becomibg tired of many self imposed orientalists style of Iranian Art that often have an outward look towards the West, I adapted DaDa for the modern day as a protest against the harm done by fundamentalist religions. DaDa itself was an anti Art movement against War.

The line "Hungry stomach is not a place for faith nor religion" came from one of Shanbezade Ensemble songs and that in turn came from a poem by a Busheri poet.

I thought with the economic crisis, that statement is one truth that the regime simply can not ignore, and this single truth would bring their down fall.
