Nematollah Aghasi (1939-2005) brought more joy to Iranians than any ruling Mullahs ever have. He died on this day four years ago. Below is my translation of his most famous song.
Ameneh - by Aghasi
My heart, saddened from your spite
In my chest, sadness reside
My heart’s dwelling, destroyed from sublime
Why is this tradition of the time!
Ameneh, your eye, my wine’s chalice
Ameneh, your frown, my pain and malice
My life is on fire from your deed
Your passion won’t leave my heart, indeed
Ameneh, my heart, for you it beats
Ameneh, don’t afflict, my heart bleeds
Ameneh, your name is my pain and misery
Ameneh, without you, my heart, my life’s agony
My heart gone mad with your mystery
My life drowning for your necessity
Your affected manner, my wine cover
O by God! Your manner!
Ameneh, your name is my pain and misery
Ameneh, without you, my heart, my life’s agony

by Party Girl on Mon Nov 09, 2009 03:43 PM PSTDear MPD:
I don't know which one of these films that one is. His wiki page says he played in these films:
آغاسی به دعوت منوچهر نوذری به سینما راه یافت و در کارنامه سینمایی اش هشت فیلم را ثبت کرده است. این فیلم ها عبارتاند از:
I have two more clips where that one came from. I don't know if they are all the same film or different ones. Take a look MPD!
and this one:
MPD, I agree that it is hard to say what the nature of movie was
by Anahid Hojjati on Mon Nov 09, 2009 03:03 PM PSTMPD, I agree with you where you write in your comment:"... it is quite possible that the movie, which we saw a part of it in the video clip, might have been used for spreading patriotic messages, or it might be a small portion of an innocent sing-and-dance movie. It’s hard to tell without seeing the whole thing."
Anahid,
by Multiple Personality Disorder on Mon Nov 09, 2009 02:27 PM PSTI still remember when there was an Iranian Military practice maneuver in Khuzestan Province back when I was a kid living in Abadan. There were a lot of announcements in the radio and Abadan Television about the maneuver asking people to stay out their way, informing people that some of the soldiers would be in enemy uniforms, and in case if any of them were captured by the Iranian people not treat them harshly. I remember one cold day, for Abadan, I was walking to school and there was a huge tank by one of the streets near my school, and I could see flames coming out of its exhaust pipe in the back. That was an awesome sight to see for a kid. I also remember hearing that despite all the announcements, some of the Iranian soldiers in enemy uniforms were beaten up anyway.
But, that was a few years before Aghasi became a famous singer and actor, however it is quite possible that the movie, which we saw a part of it in the video clip, might have been used for spreading patriotic messages, or it might be a small portion of an innocent sing-and-dance movie. It’s hard to tell without seeing the whole thing.
It seemed that the movie was trying to say something about
by Anahid Hojjati on Mon Nov 09, 2009 12:16 PM PSTAt the time that Aghassi was popular, Iran and Iraq had border problems. In late 60s, early 1970s in Abadan, I remember that school kids used to sing anti Iraq songs such as "noon o paneer o sabzi, aragh chera meetarsi, Iran kareet nadareh, sarbe saret meezare...". Since Aghassi was from South, I believe in this movie he was used to send patriotic messages to people including kids. I agree with MPD about some positive messages for girls. About mean looks on kids, maybe that was all message to Iraqis that even Iranian kids are determined to defend the country.
One of the highlights of my life...

by Multiple Personality Disorder on Mon Nov 09, 2009 06:30 AM PSTNow that's a message to live by.
Good morning Kourosh,
The video clip, provided by Party Girl, does look like a musical. It looks like a sing and dance type of a movie like the Indian movies. I wonder what the name of it is, but I noticed it was nothing but positive messages for children. I particularly liked it because what the girls said they wanted to do when they grew up. The first one said she wanted to be a fortune-teller, which she was discouraged. The next one said she wanted to be an officer! Very progressive at the time. She said she wanted to defend the borders alongside with the boys, hand in hand! The last one said she wanted to be a singer. I wonder who the singer girl was and what became of her.
It's all nice and positive. A lot better than azadari.
Thank you,
Nematollah Peresly?:)
by KouroshS on Sun Nov 08, 2009 11:38 PM PSTThanks Party girl for this last clip. I guess Aghasi is Like the Iranian ELvis Presly!
I wish we could see the whole movie. Was it a musical of some sort? there did not seem to be any form of conversation in there? Makes you wonder if he talked like that at home also:) SOrry Aghasi... Shookhi:))
Why do these kids have this mean look on their faces?:)
Thank you Party Girl,

No, that guy in the video clip is not me, but now that you mentioned it, he does sort of look like me, when I looked like him.

by yolanda on Sat Nov 07, 2009 06:02 PM PSTHi MPD,
I have a suggestion, next time, could you please place the singer's bio in your blog instead of in your post? You posted the guy's bio very early on in one of your comments, now it is completely buried by the readers' comments...it is very hard to dig out. I have a feeling people like to read the bio and they want to know status of his surviving families, how many kids left? anyone in the showbusiness? something like that...it is just a suggestion, not a demand!
Thank you!
