Great idea JJ

Surely I am not saying that you are the first to champion the "green" cause. But, you are a decent smart influential person and decent smart people pay attention to what you say.
Yeah, the world and in particular Americans seem to be passengers on the ship of fools. All kinds of things are ailing this vessel and human and other resources in the ship are devoted to fighting one another and messing up all sources of our sustenance. It is imperative that people start speaking up as well as changing their own life-style/actions to affect change for the better.
We, each one of us, can do little and big things to help right this badly listing ship. I am happy to report that I drive a Prius. And on the average I get better that 50 MPG and not the 45 that the company advertises. My other car is a Toyota van that gets about 16 MPG. For the past two years, the van has been snoozing in the garage. I drive it extremely rarely when I absolutely must. So, I am happy to brag about it and hope others do their bits.
As for alt. energy, they are becoming economically viable in comparison to fossil fuel. And that's the key. The pocketbook usually has the last word. If gas prices keep going up and up, then other forms of energy are much more likely to come online.

Going Green is Sexy!

There are too many examples of alternative energy being as effective as fossil fuels in producing energy, but since no one makes money from it, (ie you can't refine wind into plastic and fertilizer and weapons) there is no incentive.

According to one study the US has enough wind that can produce enough power, to light all the cities in the country!

And that's exacty why I drive an SUV! The sooner we use up all the gas and oil, the sooner "they" will have to find new ways to "turn us on".

Future: Second Generation Biofuels

Dear Samsam

You obviouly have not heard of the Second Generation Biofuels hence charging at Bio-Ethanol (a usual strategy of oil lobbies). You also seem to assume that all countries have plenty of sunshine as well as wind! The SGBFs are fundamentally different from their predecessors, First Generation Biofuels, in that the biomass is not obtained from the agricultural products but from the WASTE produced by agricultural stocks. In other words, human food chain in not touched or used up through SGBF processes nor is there any need for the vast amouny of arable land being used to grow biofuel convertible product. In fact, no extra land is need more than those already in use. There is no single green solution to the energy crisis/ each country should seek the solution that is more suited to its economy, agriculture and climate.

Please the first three paragraphs of this link carefully if you need to know how the SGBFs work.

True..The only true alternative energy is Solar/wind

Contrary to mass media coverage ..other forms of alt energy have huge costs attached to them..Ethanol: is a game of wall street Agri Stock speculators for companies like Arthur Daniel Midland(ADM) to make huge profits and jack up the stock price..results--> huge food cost attributed to shortage of corn ,chicken feed & sugar extracts for only a  tiny %2 share of the energy market...Atomic: nuclear waste and lack of long term Uranium reserves....Solar is the only practical solution right now with abundant supply.. talking about solar..here are some Tech solar stocks..ESLR FSLR(german) ENER HOKU(half chinese owned  I like this one ,not oprtnl yet but,grt future) WFR STP CSIQ(canadian)
