This Ticket Valid One Way Only Way Jan. 1 2009

You know something, Mrs. Simpson?

by This Ticket Valid One Way... on

I saw this guy yesterday in Manhattan working in a store I was in and I recognized he was Israeli (though not the hunky type you like so much..) and so I asked him what he thought about Gaza and he said he was apolitical. So I picked his brain and for someone apolitical he sure knew a helluva lot about politics (alhtough of course this is not uncommon among apolitical people) and he basically told me that both the Israeli government and Hamas and all other parties concerned were benefitting economically from the conflicts, and that they would never end until that stopped.

I'm telling you this only because I thought you might like him and maybe I could fix you up with him. Again, he's not that tall dark handsome reared on hard work in kibbutz and IDF type but he's handsome in a roshanfekr ghamzadeh sort of way. I really think you two might get on, anyway he sure could use a laugh...and you sure could use a...

YES. You got it! "I wonder" aka "I am a genius".

I really am a mullah. Well, as much as I can be. I have a lot in common with mullahs. You're right. I breathe oxygen, I like an occasional baklava, I don't want Iran to be invaded. Whoops! The cat is out of the bag.

I am not defending either side. I think they are both sketchy. Leadership that year in and out threatens its own people by fooling them with "we're defending you" is bull shit.

Living in Israel = having G W Bush as prez every year. No thanks! Again Israel = epic fail.

You said it sister.

by desi on

You said it sister.  i think we should dole out the same amount of funding to the Palestinians as we do to the Israelis.    Then they can have the same militaristic capabilities and duke it out fair and square.   That should solve the proportionality kerfuffle.

9 steps to Peace!

by sickofiri (not verified) on

Chopra's letter to Obama:

You have been elected by the first anti-war constituency since 1952, when Dwight D. Eisenhower was elected after promising to end the Korean War. But ending a war isn't the same as bringing peace. America has been on a war footing since the day after Pearl Harbor, 67 years ago. We spend more on our military than the next 16 countries combined. If you have a vision of change that goes to the heart of this country's deep problems, ending our dependence on war is far more important than ending our dependency on foreign oil.

The most immediate changes are economic. Unless it can make as much money as war, peace doesn't stand a chance. Since aerospace and military technologies remain the United States' most destructive export, fostering wars around the world, what steps can we take to reverse that trend and build a peace-based economy?

1. Scale out arms dealing and make it illegal by the year 2020.

2. Write into every defense contract a requirement for a peacetime project.

3. Subsidize conversion of military companies to peaceful uses with tax incentives and direct funding.

4. Convert military bases to housing for the poor.

5. Phase out all foreign military bases.

6. Require military personnel to devote part of their time to rebuilding infrastructure.

7. Call a moratorium on future weapons technologies.

8. Reduce armaments like destroyers and submarines that have no use against terrorism and were intended to defend against a superpower enemy that no longer exists.

9. Fully fund social services and take the balance out of the defense and homeland security budgets.

I thought you didn't want to take sides, but obviously you're taking sides and funny that you always end up taking mullahs' side no matter what or on what issue ... lol

are you for real? do you think anybody takes you seriously after all your gibberish?! do you think before you type?

As Humans Beings We Must Take a Side

by Anonymous Observer on

and on this one I am on the Palestinian side and here's the reason why:

http://english.aljazeera.net/news/middleeast/2009/01/20091853249762874.html

While I believe that Hamas's rocket launches on Israel is unacceptable, this is not the proper response.  Regardless on who's to blame for this recent mess, Israel, by virtue of its superior power, has superior responsibilities, and it should excercise discretion, patience and tolerance.

Arab terrorism built

by yadaaaaaaaa (not verified) on

Arab terrorism built support for right-wing Israeli politicians, who took harsh actions against Palestinians, who responded with more terrorism, and so on. Extremists on each side sustain the other, and the excessive Israeli ground assault in Gaza is likely to create more terrorists in the long run.

If this pattern continues, we may eventually see Hamas-style Palestinians facing off against hard-line Israelis, with each side making the others’ lives wretched — and political moderates in the Middle East politically eviscerated. This is what religion does to the world. It transforms human decency into a carnivorous impetus for shedding blood, all because of what a few ignorant tribes hallucinated about, some 1000/2000 years ago.

I also share your concern about PS. He has contributed more to humanity than all of these puritanical religious monsters vying for power in the world.
