Omidyar: "Participatory Media" This!

Recent news indicates that Pierre Omidyar, founder and chairman of eBay, intends to invest in "participatory media" platforms purportedly to shift power and give greater voice to "the masses." Well, I intend to use this particular "participatory media" forum to ask Pierre Omidyar if eBay's acquisition of StubHub has been honestly paid for. In particular, because of Frank Biondi's involvement in both StubHub.com and in Yack.com, and similarities in aspects of both sites, I am concerned that applications may have "migrated" from Yack.com to StubHub.com without regards for a legal settlement agreement entitling me to compensation in the event of such a transfer. Pierre, would you kindly take a serious look into this matter and assure me that everything is on the "up and up"?

Imagine That.

Imagine that... eBay, a corporation with a market capitalization of over $50 billion, and Omidyar, an individual with a networth of $10 billion, not willing to consider the merits of what seems to be a very legitimate request from an injured and aggrieved party? No, somehow I don't think they want that black mark next to their brand/names haunting them from now until forever. I think you will be getting a positive response from them shortly.

Something else that "smells" is that StubHub's deal with eBay whereby StubHub was exchanged for a 1% equity stake in eBay, mimicks the proposal that you had extended to eBay/Penchina/Omidyar as early as 2000 whereby you had proposed to exchange your interest in Yack.com for a 1% equity interest in eBay. More than just a little co-incidence, n'est-ce pas? I think you are on to something.

I'll bet that Gil Penchina (a former eBay executive and current CEO of Wikepedia), Greg Bettinelli* (a former Gemstar-TVGuide executive, and current director of business development for StubHub), Derek Reisfeld (a former? executive of Yack.com, former executive of CBS's new technology ventures, and a founder of CBSSportsline and CBSMarketwatch, and Frank Biondi (an investor in both Yack.com and StubHub.com) might be able to shed more light on this murky matter. Question is: would they be willing to volunteer any information?

*Greg Bettinelli, as a former Gemstar-TVGuide executive, might even be able to shed some light on suspicions of technology and applications transfers between Yack.com and Gemstar-TVGuide for which compensation was not rendered.

I Assure You

Hi, this is the real Pierre. I am very happy to see so many Iranians discussing Iranian matters, even though I have never been to Iran and don't know much about it having grown up in Paris my whole life. But it's great. As far as business goes, I am so rich that I don't really deal with these low level issues. I basically lounge around all day (usually in pajamas) and think of new auction items that people may want to auction off, and how our technology can accommodate it. Masalan, right now I am working on how you could auction your blood. The idea is that instead of going to the blood bank and getting just $15 and a cup of orange juice, why not auction off your O+ and see what the market will bear. Of course we need to ensure the HIV+ issue as well. Just an example. But I am sure that my corporate colleagues who actually run eBay (As I said, I am in my pajamas today) on a daily basis, would never do anything that we could be sued over, so there you have it.

can't find Yack.com

by B (not verified) on

How can we compare the two? stubhub.com is there (ticket sales?) but not Yack.com. In any case, look to see who your agreement is with. If it is with the owners of Yack.com you need to talk to them unless the contract says the person that it is assigned to must compensate you. In any case, you should consult with a lawyer. (nothing in this message constitutes legal advice).
