100 Years of Peace and Quiet

All I am asking for is 100 years of peace and quiet with no conflict or conflagration or confrontation, just progress. Imagine that: a country producing approximately 4 million barrels of oil per day and selling it for approximately $100 per barrel (that works out to 4,000,000 x $100 x 365 days = $146,000,000,000 in oil revenues per year, and if you think that is alot consider that Saudi Arabia with a quarter of Iran's population generates three times as much per year or $438,000,000,000 in oil revenues per year), then creating and executing a well thought out "master-plan" spanning 100 years with no wars, conflicts, etc. to form the most prosperous and advanced society that civilization has ever witnessed. I am convinced that it is possible if a nation has the will for it, and if it plays its cards right, not getting caught up in extraneous events...witness countries like Switzerland and Sweden...witness their prosperity and progress.

You Will Never Be a Ruler

This is a complement! Because your thinking is too sane! I am with you. If Iranians could agree to not take their political fights onto the streets, if they could be a little patient and realize that there is no perfect solution and be willing to live with small amounts of waste, your dream could come true. Iran could be in very good shape in a few short years. But for some odd reason we seem to be in a rush to destroy Iran as soon as there is a small sign that Iran might become strong. We did it when we removed Shah, and we are getting ready for it again with the mullahs. What we don't seem to realize is that mullahs can do nothing if this kind of money keeps pouring into Iran. I don't care how much of it is stolen and put in Swiss bank acounts that belong to mullahs and their friends, this kind of money eventually will overflow and cover the whole damn country. Libraries, universities, schools, hospitals, industries, etc, will be built as these have been built within the past few years. Mullahs cannot stop the progress but we have to be a bit patient and look at long term not short term. Mullahs will also want the best for their kids and family and once they start doing so, their kids will end up being better educated, maybe travelled to other countries and therefore want a more advanced and free country. If we only could be a bit patient. If we could also be a little less selfish and want the greater good of the country not just our own fame.

Sounds great. Only problem is that other more powerful countries aren't going to just let you have that $146,000,000,000/year in peace. They want their cut, too. It's like walking through the ghetto with a Rolex and flashing $1,000 cash. The neighborhood bullies are going to try to take it from you, or at least extort significant "protection money" from you as they do with the Saudis and did with the Shah.

In this sense, international politics is scarcely different from the law of the jungle, or the law or the urban jungle for that matter. Iran will have to fight hard to protect itself from would be robbers if it wants to keep its $146,000,000,000/year in peace. This means, realistically, that Iran will therefore have to invest in all avenues of modern military defense technologies (including but not limited to nuclear deterrants) in order to secure its own stability.
