by Esfand Aashena
05-Mar-2012

RW jaan the 4 FIFA board members have approved.

by Esfand Aashena on

I'm glad you brought up the legal aspect of this because this is what this blog is all about which has been turned into something else.  Interestingly enough those against hijab in soccer are the ones sticking to the rules!

Based on this news article, last paragraph, IAFB (International Football Association Board) that consists of 4 FIFA members out of 8 members approved this rule or change to the rule.

You don't want to take this news from ettelaat, ok here's another source that said all 8 members approved and the FIFA source itself.

I'll copy and paste it for you if you don't want to click:

IFAB, which comprises four representatives from the world governing body FIFA and four from the British associations, also agreed in principle to overturn the decision they took in 2007 and will now allow Islamic women footballers to wear a hijab, or headscarf, when they play.

The hijab decision, taken after a presentation to the Board by FIFA executive committee member Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein of Jordan, was agreed by all eight members and will also be subject to further testing with a view to a final decision on July 2.

Finally, a presentation regarding the wearing of headscarves by female players was made to the IFAB. The IFAB agreed to the proposal in principle that headscarves be allowed, pending an accelerated review of health and safety issues. Therefore, a final endorsement will be made at the Special Meeting of the IFAB on 2 July.

Now you're blaming me for losing my roots because of living in the West for so long?  You've lived in the West for as long as I have, probably more!  AND, and I may add the 4 Western FIFA Board members and the remaining 4 members approved and yet you're the one still citing rules and my lack of understanding!

Thank you for participating and commenting but you and I are way off on this issue and going in different directions.  As I said before you are unhappy because they may allow Hijab and I am happy.

Some day no Iranian woman will be forced to wear hijab.  We may see that day in our life time in Iran.  However, we will not live to see a day that NO Iranian woman wears hijab.

Everything is sacred

I understand where you are coming from and what you are basing your arguments on, but this CAN Not ever be about a personal choice of a certain talented or not-so-talented player. There are Internationally accepted and honored criteria and regulations and rules that ALL meaning every single nation in the world has been abiding by and adhereing to, Why should IRI be an exception?

It does not even make sense to argue in favor of that one exceptionally talneted player and her rights to wear Chaghchoor so she won't change her mind and stay on the team!! what is next? To agree when Ronaldinio says hey guys, I am gonna bring my poodle into the game and I am sorry ain't no way around it!!
Can you imagine how adacious that would be and how it opens floodgates??

 Cheerios.

RW jaan what kind of support is your's?!

by Esfand Aashena on

Of course the Iranian players are upset for having to play with Hijab.  Just like Farhadi is upset for having to make movies under the current censorship.  But he did it and he won.

I am certain given a choice to play or not play because of Hijab (either by IRI or FIFA) they rather play.  They cried last June when they were not allowed.

Now are you saying you will not celebrate their victory if it comes their way and they somehow manage to win a world cup?

I think it's a senseless argument by men (either you RW jaan or IRI men) to say whether they should (IRI) or they shouldn't (you) play with Hijab!  You are not a player so just sit back and watch them play.  Or if you can't stand to see them play with Hijab, turn the TV off and go do something against the Islamic Republic.

What if in the future we have a free Iran and have the most talented player in the world but she wants to play with hijab for personal reasons?  Should she be forced to play without it?  Should a free Iranian nation be denied to watch their team win with the best player in the wooooooooooooorld?!

From my perspective I am happy for them.  Are you trying to force me to be unhappy?!  I understand from your perspective you are unhappy.  Ok good for you.  I let you be unhappy!

Well I stand by the Iranian women national soccer team.

by Esfand Aashena on

I'm happy for them that they will now be allowed to play in the next world cup.  The same arguments against wearing hijab and not being able to compete can be made for the men's national team or Farhadi and Oscars for that matter.

Mr. Bahmani is ripping his collar apart since Farhadi won the Oscar, because Islamic Republic may be the benefactor!  and you guys are using the same rationale!

Also, women in Iran have not only wearing hijab while at work (or play in this case) but added an infant as their backpack AND directed cows and bulls in muddy rice patties to plow the earth!  You guys are just looking at the surface!

Whatever the rationale for forbidding them to play last year and those who agreed with them, I am sure the national team players are happy and totally against your view RW and Faramarz jaans and I am on their side, regardless of what they may think of Islamic Republic!

I wish they'd interview the men's team and asked them point blank their view of Islamic Republic so we can see what if any effect that may have on people's (i.com people's ;-) view on their competition in the international events.

The net effect of allowing Hejab by FIFA will be that some players will cover their hairs, some will wear long pants and some will wear baggy short pants, a complete mishmash like the picture below!

//theolympicssports.com/football/afc-2014-fif...

But I think that FIFA has realized that none of the Muslim teams are any good, so let them wear whatever they want and compete against each other. Iran which is the top Middle Eastern team doesn't have a prayer against Japan, the Koreans, Australians or any of the Europeans.

The big soccer news however is that Japan men's team will lose its 2nd place Asian ranking and as a result Iran will get either Australia or S. Korea in the next group round of World Cup 2014 qualifiers.

Esfand Aashena
