May 1st is also the anniversary of Delara Darabi's illegal execution

About Delara what I could say, for years I have ....and the untold is still too difficult to be expressed, so I only repeat part of one of Delara's poem that her sister sent me 2 years ago

While Free

we suppose freedom is an ideal.. Unattainable

and we reach out

for what is already sacrificed under our own feet

One minute of silence in memory of Delara Darabi

You will never be forgotten

Laleh khanoom: Gol goftid. Sharia Islam is product of 7th century battlefileds and wars of Islamic armies conquering people and destroying other civilization. That is why they are so harsh and inhumane.

the ruling Mullahs in Iran are blood thirsty vampries. Their leader Khomeini was the reincarnation of Zahhak. We all know the story and how it ends. Khomeini is rotting in hell right now but he saw to it to leave his poison behind him. No person in recent history has hated Iran and Iranians more than that monster Khomeini. Not one ounce of humanity or decency in that monster. Fortunately his evil woke many of us and specially the next generation to what Islam really is.

Those who survive IRI will be hunted down like Nazi's they are. Too bad many of them are already in hell and will escape human justice.

Your expertise on IRI is limited to Fox and NeoCon propaganda.

We can take care of IRI you can zip it. Not one decent or helpful word out of you ever. Please take your insults with you.

iranhamvatan: The real murderers are in control of leadership of IRI. In fact, in IRI system, if you don't have blood on your hands, you won't get promoted...

The criminals you support are responsible for crimes against humanity and will be brought to justice. They will be hunted down like the former Nazi.

by vildemose on

Raoul: Morality is not a game of numbers. Percentage of people accepting or disapproving does not make barbaric mores or inhumane  laws, even if they are religious laws (Sharia laws are some of the most immoral laws practiced in IRI), moral.

Especially the shaira law of Ghesas, which is one the most perverse and twisted, immoral laws. (others are amer be marouf and nahy az monkr, stoning, and legal pedophilia)

According to gallup poll 51% of Americans approve of  the racist Arizona immigration law that just passed. Does the number of people approving it  make the law moral?

I bet you if you take a poll of bringing back slavery and treating non-whitles as second class citizens, you would get a similar results. Does the majority approving of it make slavery moral??

Breaching own laws

by David ET on

Unfortunately 1/3 of the countries of the world are still practicing the violent act of taking another human being's life according to their laws of the land considering it "legal". But the countries which execute juveniles guilty of crime are only a few, Iran having the worst record in the world.

One of the many angels of the tragedy of Delara's murder by Islamic Republic was that the regime did not even abide by own laws or the laws that they are a signatory to.

Here is a part of Nazanin Afshin-Jam's letter after execution of Delara:

In Delara’s case, Iran has breached many laws.

Injustice # 1

Iran is state party to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Charter of the Rights of the Child which forbids the execution of those who have committed an offence before the age of 18. Delara was 17 years old when she was allegedly charged of murder. To the bitter end she maintained her innocence.

Injustice #2

The initial verdict that was issued, was based on a confession from a child that did not know her rights, and was not made aware of the consequences for taking the blame for a crime she says she did not commit.

Injustice #3

Medical examination of Mahin’s body in an autopsy suggested that the crime was committed by a right-handed person. Delara was left handed. If a new trial was accorded to present this new evidence, the death penalty verdict could have been reversed. Delara’s lawyer Abdolsamad Khoramshahi has tried for years to obtain a new trial and carry out a re-enactment of the crime in court, with no success. He is also convinced that due to Delara’s small frame and gentle nature, it was an impossibility for her to have committed the offence.  A partnering lawyer who followed the case, Mohammad Mostafaei, said “I swear she is innocent”.

Injustice #4

Whereas the head of Judiciary Ayatollah Shahroudi accorded a 2 month stay of execution in order for the families to try and negotiate  a pardon, Delara was executed in less than 10 days from this order.

Injustice #5

Under Iran’s Penal  Code it states that the family and lawyer of the accused are to be given 48 hours prior notice before execution.  No such warning had been given. Instead Delara was executed in secret, like Reza Hejazi and Behnam Zare, with no mother, father or sister to be with her in her last frightening moments or to hear her final words.

Injustice #6:

In cases of “ghesas” crimes, the decision whether or not to execute the accused rests with the relatives of the victim. What kind of Justice system allows the biased opinion of the family who has lost a family member to decide ones fate?

Sad indeed.

by Raoul1955 on

Just a reminder that tens of millions of Iranians do support this Islamic regime that has been very determined in ‘neutralizing’ Iranian intellectuals and freedom seekers.

the executions are illegal and barbaric. No civilized nation executes people. No civilized religion promotes it. So much for the religion of peace; right.

It seems much longer than only 1 year ago. I remember again the great sadness I felt at the time. Sadly the executions of minors have continued but are less prominent in the news from Iran.

Whether any of these executions are legal or not they are morally wrong

Are they all- legal, as well as illegal- wrong?
