Marjane Satrapi writer/director of Persepolis and filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf (probably best known here for his 2001 film Kandahar, and the excellent A Moment of Innocence)“ presented a document to Green Party MPs in the European parliament claiming to show that defeated presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi had received over 19 million votes in the weekend election. They demand that foreign governments not to recognize the government of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Disgraceful
by Shangool (not verified) on Thu Jun 18, 2009 01:02 PM PDTThe NYT is reporting that these two "also presented a document to the European Parliament that they say represent the true vote totals from last Friday’s election, with Mr. Moussavi winning 19 million votes, Mr. Karroubi coming second with 13 million votes and Mr. Ahmadinejad taking just 5 million votes"!!!
Where did they get this document from? Was it part of one of those mass emails that is going around. Also, the way these two are appealing to foreign governments to help the Iranian people is quite distasteful and disgraceful, and I should say down right dangerous to this great movement for freedom that is shaping in Iran. The is especially true because of the historically disruptive and destructive role of Western powers in the history of Iran's struggle for democracy. Makhmalbaf has really gone off the cliff this time. Why do Iranians keep making the same mistakes over and over and over. Fortunately, the youth in Iran have a lot more "sho'ur" than the expats or their fathers' generation that helped bring us this regime.
Darius, you are famous now, they are quoting you on NYT
