Muslims’ Victim Mentality

Amil Imani

As a group, Muslims are paranoid and suffer chronically from the disease of victimization. That is, they either victimize the helpless whenever and wherever they can, or scream murder against the strong. This mentality is one of the many bequests that Muhammad left for his Ummah.

Recall that Muhammad himself bemoaned his victim plight in Mecca, packed his bags and flew to Medina where the Jews were not as vicious as his own Quraish tribe operating the lucrative tourist business of the idolaters.

Then the infighting started in earnest among the various factions, as soon as Muhammad died. People began jockeying for power and doing their Muslim-best to destroy their competition. Ali, Muhammad’s son-in-law was elbowed out of the way by the more powerful disciples of the Prophet and had to wait his turn to head the already fractured and feuding Ummah.

A number of the faithful resented the fact that Ali was not allowed to take over the reign. Some felt victimized by Omar and his powerful conspirators and hated Ali for not standing and fighting like a man. Some real stand-and-fight Muslims decided that Ali should be punished and he was knifed to death on his way to the mosque.

The death of Ali was the real stirring of the hornet’s nest, so to speak. All kinds of power struggle, infighting and bloodletting started among the followers of the religion of peace.

Ali’s boys, namely Hassan and Hussein, decided to salvage their dad’s honor by standing and fighting like a good Muslim should, as well as enjoying the perks that come with being the leaders of the gang.

So, a real fight was joined. On the one side was Yazid with his mighty army and wealth, and on the other side were Hassan and Hussein with their rag-tag band of followers. Hassan was killed unceremoniously in short order, but Hussein was not about to bow out. Hussein started a dialogue with his adversary, Yazid.

Hussein: I am the rightful inheritor of the house of Muhammad. I demand that all believers, including you Yazid, accept me (bayat) as the head of the Ummeh.

Yazid: Nothing doing man. Muhammad’s Ummah is not a family business. It is the faith of Allah that must follow his laws. The people select the most righteous man as the head of the faith, just the way the Caliphs did. The faith of Allah is based on meritocracy and not heredity.

Hussein: You are wrong, Yazid. My granddaddy started the business, my daddy gave his life for it, my brother was murdered to claim it, and I intend to take what is rightfully mine.

Yazid: Hussein, you seem to be just as stubborn as Hassan. You are not amenable to reason, so let the sword of justice settle our dispute.

So, you know the rest of the story. Hussein stubbornly refused to relinquish his claim to the powerful Yazid and ended up with his head cut off by Shimr, impaled on a spear and presented to Yazid as a trophy.

The followers of the house of Ali and his lineage, a minority of about 10 percent of the Muslims, felt victimized by the evil Yazid. Since there was very little these lovers of Ali’s house could do to materially change things, they assumed the role of victim. Year after year, century after century, they commemorated the victimization events of the time of Hussein, have beaten and slashed themselves bloody for their ancestors not going to the aid of Hussein, and bloodied themselves all aimed to atone for their ancestral sins.

Well, the Yazid-Hussein bloody drama was some 1400 years ago. Isn’t it time to let go? Why is it, particularly to Iranian Shias, that they just keep on continuing and promoting the tragic events associated with two Arabs fighting for personal power?

We Iranians don’t have a dog in this fight. In fact we should rid ourselves of all Islamic stains, Shia, Sunni, or whatever, and with it stop playing victims of one power or another. Playing victim may give psychological relief but doesn’t solve any problems on the ground. And problems of the ground we have aplenty.

Again, give it up my countrymen. Enough playing victim: victims of the Jews, our perennial excuse that we have been using to victimize them whenever we can; victims of America; victims of the Crusaders. We are victims alright: victims of Islam that invaded our land and implanted a raft of pathological ideas in our heads.

Victimization is an Islamic disease. Islam, irrespective of sects, either victimizes the people it can, or plays victim to the real or imagined oppressors. This victimization mentality is at the root of Muslim’s backwardness and primitiveness.

We Iranians are descendants of an optimistic, enlightened, and positive people. We are the children of Cyrus the Great and not blind slaves of an Arab cult called Islam. Islam has brought us nothing but misery. Let go of Islam; bury it along with the memories of two Arabs, Yazid and Hussein, who fought for leadership. Don’t bloody yourselves for ten days every year to bemoan Hussein’s plight. All of Islam is not worth one drop of an Iranian’s blood. And blood we have given to this blood-sucker Islam by barrel-full.

I STRONGLY suggest that someone prints this wonderful article and shows
it to an American university professor and get his/her opinion on it.

American University professors aren't what they used to be.

(Although I think a high school student might also do)

Much better idea. They could make it a class project.... study the historical records and current events, and come to a conclusion without any input from their teachers. A nice academic excercise, and they may even come up with some objective (if immature) conclusions.

Everyone with a bit of common sense knows why you keep writing this non-sense. With putting a picture of a Zoroastrian logo you keep bad-mouthing Islam.

Muslim Iranians consider Zoroastrians as their brothers and there is nothing you can do to change that!

As far as I am concerned you might just be Kouroush Sassanian, Zion, Ex-Muslim or another idiot trying to stir up trouble.

You are dead wrong Ali

by Chicken Shiet (not verified) on

Hey Mr. Ali,

You are dead wrong. I am more Iranian than you and the rest of you Arab loving oppressors of everything good about human race could ever hope to be.

Sometimes, to get rid of the smell of poop in the toilet, you gotta light a match.

You are definitely not Iran.

No matter how much you speak of "Cyrus the Great", "The glorious Persian empire"...etc the second you wish for a foreign country to BOMB Iran, you lose every right of calling yourself Iranian.

It is as simple as that.

I think our expectation of academic analysis has sunk so low that a garbage like this is called "factual" argumentation!

There are SO MANY things wrong with the reasoning in this article that most intelligent people would just give up criticizing it.

One can not just ASSUME that 1 BILLION people share a particular behavior (ex: self-victimization) and then put 4 SELECTIVE historical facts together from here and there, and pretend that these are the "facts" of that assumption!!!!!

Since any Iranian who criticizes these kinds of article is labeled as an "Islamist", "Islamiofascist" "I.R agents" and such other stupid new labels, I STRONGLY suggest that someone prints this wonderful article and shows it to an American university professor and get his/her opinion on it. (Although I think a high school student might also do)

Islam MUST be eliminated

by Chicken Shiet (not verified) on

Ali agha,
There is no need for source(s) when you talk about Islam. We have centuries of data; on the misery it has brought upon the people of the world.

Iran at one time was the biggest empire on the planet.
We are sons and daughters of Cyrus and Darius.
Call for freedom of the human race was raised from Iran over 2000 years ago.

I am ashamed of being called a Muslim. I abhore Islam, anything Islamic. If I ever had to choose a religion I would choose the teachings of Zoraster, Bahai religion, Christianity and faith of Moses over Islam, any day of the week.

The poorest, most corrupt, most backward, most repressive and filthiest of all countries are all Islamic countries. Thats all the source I need to know Iran and Iranians do not need Islam.

I hope for the day that someone (and that someone maybe even the hated George Bush) drops bombs on anything and everything Islamic in Iran, including the Majlis and all the Friday prayers so all these fanatic bastards die and go to hell.

Long live a free democratic and secular Iran.

Islamists' discourse

by cyrus khan (not verified) on

It is constructive to note how Islamists engage others in discussion. When they don't like what they hear, they resort to ridicule, accusations and name-calling. Wouldn't be wonderful if these people would, for once, abandon their primitive mindset and use a civilized method of dialogue?
Now, Mr. Imani has presented facts. Which fact are the Islamists dispute? The truth that they don't like? Well, that's tough. Truth is often unwelcome. Yet, it is light to our feet. We really must be truthful even if it hurts and often it does.
Is there any questions about the facts?
1.Muhammad died and did not leave a written will (he was illiterate, that's understandable). So, his high-ranking disciples began scheming for leadership. The Shias claim that Muhammad verbally indicated that Ali was to lead his ummeh. Well, 90% of the Muslims say, no he did not and the Caliphate system was the way to go.
2. Shortly after Muhammad's death, Ali was killed by some disgruntled Muslim, for whatever reason. Violence was part and parcel of Islam from the word go.
3. Then there was a battle between Yazid's forces and Hussein. Wasn't there? Hussein and his band of relatives-followers got butchered. Well, friends, that's the nature of the beast called war.
4. To this day, Shias bloody themselves, their children, even their babies with self-flagellation in a most horrid way in aza dari (morning) for what happened to Hussein. What good does this do, other than perpetuate a sense of defeatism and fanaticism that mitigates against Iranians freeing themselves from the yoke of the conniving mullahs?

That's what Mr. Imani is all about. And that's what iranian.com is all about. Please don't vilify Mr. Imani for telling it like it is. If he is lying or he is incorrect, present your evidence.

Also, please don't say that iranians call iranian.com a non-iranian.com. Why so? Who are these so called Iranians? You mean the Islamists? Indeed iranian.com is not islamist.com. It is to Mr. Javid's immense credit to open this forum for civilized discussion by everyone, irrespective of their beliefs. So, thank him, instead of insulting him. Your cause is ill-served by your methods. While you are at it, please don't curse me and accuse me of being in the pay of this and that. I am only paid by my conscience and the love I have for Iran and non-fanatic Iranians.

by Islam is poison for Iran (not verified) on

We hear from many sources that Iranians are throwing this devilish cult out of their lives amass.

Hate and darkness in heart and not enjoying others are center core of this savage cult.

We iranians have tried for centuries to reform this barbaric mindset and in return it made us to fail in every area. Now, join others and once and for all together boot Islam out of our lives completely.

Let's revive.

nonsense

by Ali (not verified) on

What qualifications do you have to wright such "historical" and "psychological" analysis?! What are your sources? How many months or weeks or even hours have your researched on the subject before publishing such a pretentious article ?

I know that not even the greatest scholars, experts and university professors would ever dare to just wake up one morning and write an article about the roots of particular social and psychological behavior of 1 billion people in their history 1400 years ago!!

The only place where such poorly written article might get some approval is probably here on Iranian.com, where a bunch uneducated bigots are just waiting for someone to bash Muslims so they can cheer.

not all Muslims

by American (not verified) on

My daughter works in a Mass. hospital and the Saudis stopped buy for medical care. They treated Ivy League doctors and nurses like dirt.

60 Minutes claimed that Saddam invaded Kuwait because the Kuwaiti official said that he would steal oil until ever Iraqi woman was a prostitute.

I know that some Indian Muslim wives living in the US feel their household help are inferior to them and treat them badly even though these people are American citizens.

I'd say that some Muslims have the idea that they are superior to the rest of Mankind. They are wrong. We are all equal and everyone deserves respect.

You Cut to the Point

by cyrus khan (not verified) on

The long-suffering Iranian people must put the past behind them and use their excellent talents to not only join the advanced world, but lead it. What a shame to remain stuck in this horrid mentality of victimization. Iranians deserve better than being manipulated by a bunch of mullahs who have been having a great ride on the back of the ignorant poor. Deceiving the poor and the ignorant with empty promises of sare kharman -- all the goodies that they are promised in the afterlife.
Forget the afterlife and pay attention to the plight of the suffering masses. Stop playing politics with the life of the people. Those responsible for this sham have no heart and no shame. Let the bad bygones be bygones and use the marvelous human potential of Iranians to provide them with the opportunities to better themselves and their families.
The most important step in the direction of emancipation of our people is the establishment of the rule of law -- not the barbaric sharia -- to grant all Iranians, male and female, young and old, of any and all beliefs equal rights.
Thanks for reminding us that we Iranians really have no dog in this long-dead fight. Let's look forward and do something about the sorry plight of our people today so that future generation recall this generation of Iranians as trailblazers who had the courage to break from the bleak past and launch a bright future.

Points well discussed

by Mahmoud Ghaffari (not verified) on

Mr. Imani,
As usuall your points are well articulated and historically accurate. I agree with you, that Islam has brought us nothing by misery. In fact as a direct descendant of Abuzar (third person to convert to Islam), we have always heard of the stories of Islamic violence and tragedies in my family. It just happened that voicing it was not politically or socially correct. Now with the help of people like you we can let the world know that Islam, and religion in particular, is/are nothing but a farsical ideology and waste of human energy. In the hopes that we can start by ridding Persia of Islam and returning it to is glorified place in the human civilization.
