Shamloo
by Anonymousv (not verified) on Fri May 02, 2008 02:25 AM CDTMr. Abarmard,
It is unfair when you talk from Shamloo. He was a intellectual and a patriotic enough to reject the last dictatorial regimes in Iran. His poems were significantly protesting against the their rule.
Please do not mention Shamloo’s name to get a free pass for your pro-IRI writings.

What you said is not contradictory to the poems written by the Iranian great poets. If you don't understand them, the problem is not the poems. If you do then I am amazed at your conclusion. Regardless, in Iran there is a sense of social responcibility when it comes to poems, it needs to cover the issues that people struggle with. Would you rather have indian movies shown to the people? You are going against what is very Iranian. Our culture is not based on suffering, our history is. the reason that Iranian poetry is so strong, is and has been its social context. You can easily search for what you like to read, but the artist who is not a pop artist, sets the stage for those who want to see the truth in the society.
A poet also is not responsible to be your leader or talk like a political figure that makes you excited to run and scream against or for something... Getting up and doing something has nothing to do with this sort of Art, since it does not have to be social, yet it is and our society is the way it is. Would you like a lie?

I say, I know no common pain, whatever that is, to screem.
I pitty this self imposed despiration and I offer a humble simple remedy but some are to good for their own sake.
The remedy is Giddup and do something positive, the rest will happen. This kind of sherr is only plummeting the young into despair as if they are not already there!
I say, I am niether a story nor a song or a voice or a knowlege, I am the MEANING, Daryab mara by hard work, then youll understand.

by IRANdokht on Thu May 01, 2008 11:11 AM CDTNow that I read the background story, I understand what you meant and can relate to your poem.
By nature, I am not that good with poetry and looking at the subliminal meanings... too much of the left-brainer to get poetry ;-)
I have to also add that now I like it.

by LA (not verified) on Thu May 01, 2008 10:25 AM CDTI completely agree with you,Iranian have always been that way and typically look at a glass and see it as half empty. unfortunately we have a depressed, sad va emem houssiani culture and we see it in our new wave of poets. they use poetic language to remind us of our miserable life that we already know. And it's funny some people admire that.. read the article call....cheghar mardom kharand allaho akbar..
To Explain
by Abarmard on Thu May 01, 2008 06:56 AM CDTI was inspired when I spoke to a friend from Germany seven years ago. He did not have an ideology but worshiped the west. He had many bad memories of Iran and justified his hate for his country.
Seven years later I spoke to him again. He now questions the west and western motives!
The first part is drawn from his attitude, that without a question worships the otherside of the water (west). The taste of home is Iran.
Hope that helps.
Liked it
