Child Foundation held it's 7th annual Norooz Bazaar in Los Angeles and Irvine. The fundraising events were very successful and hundreds of Iranians visited the bazaars right before Norooz 1387. These are a few photos from LA event. Established in 1994, Child Foundation is an international non-profit organization that helps children in need to remain in school. This is achieved by providing food, clothing, educational materials, and medical assistance to talented children who are economically disadvantaged. Child Foundation supports the 2015 Millennium Development Goals to eradicate hunger, promote primary education and gender equality in the classroom. As a public charity we have no religious, political, or racial affiliations.

Thanks for explanation..

Thanks for explanation. You are doing a great job, in comparison your administration fee is minimal. Now I was wondering when someone is adopting a child, is it possible to have personal contact with that kids directly or it is only though your organization? Anyhow your work is admirable...

How much of my $20.00 donation is actually used?

by praoofi on

Q. How much of my $20.00 donation is actually used to assist the child I am sponsoring?

          A.

Child Foundation takes enormous pride in making sure our sponsors' and donors hard earned income is not over spent on operational costs and expenses. In the 2006 fiscal year, Child Foundation's operating costs were kept to a low 9%. This means that 91% of your donation, or  $18.20 of your $20.00 gift, directly supports the children we serve through our programs.

Q. How does Child Foundation send my contribution to my sponsored child?

            A.

How a child receives donations and gifts largely depends on what country he or she is living in. Child Foundation is committed to following the rules and regulations mandated by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC ) of the U.S. Department of Treasury as well as the rules and regulations of the countries receiving our aid. Currently, sanctions in Iran prevent us from sending anything other than food, clothing, medical assistance and educational materials to the children supported through our programs. By law, Child Foundation is not permitted to send cash or any other goods other than the humanitarian items mentioned above. In other countries where US sanctions do not apply, it is possible to purchase other goods and services for the children we serve.

The needed cash would be provided by donors and fundraising events in Iran.

Dsitribution of funds

by Setiz (not verified) on

Their web site states that 9% of the fund is used for overhead.

There was an internet site that listed the famous charity organizations with their overhead that could be as high as 30%. Usually large organizations like United Way have large overhead as well and pay a good chunk of their money as salaries to their bosses. United Way's head had a salary of close to half-a-million dollars a few years back. I hope that this is not the case with this organization.

Another issue of interest is how the funds are delivered to children in iran with sanctions at work. Sending materials such as food and clothing seems impractical and some needs there require cash instead of purchased items (such as rent, medical expenses, daily food, etc.).

Distribution of donations..

by Anonymous (not verified) on

Could you please let us know, when someone is adopting a child -- for example paying $20 per month what percentage of that money goes to the child and what percentage is used for administrative work? The reason I am asking is that here in my company, I am donating money to United Way each year; recently I have been told that a portion is used for administrative job not for the good cause itself...

I was there...and I sponsored a girl!

by Azarin Sadegh on

I went to this event by accident, because of my friends kids performing there and I ended up sponsoring a teen girl living in iran with a terrible life story.

I chose her among many pictures and many sad stories. Her father had passed away and her older sister --a university student--, unable to provide for the family had committed suicide. Unfortunately her life story wasn’t much different from others.

My only complain is that many people came up with excuses not to sign up and not to donate at all. For the most of us, the amount we had to pay was nothing (starting from $20 a month), but the satisfaction we felt -- by helping a poor Iranian kid, with so much dream and so much pain -- was immense.

I even volunteered to help them, in any way they needed, but I haven't heard back from them yet.

Thank you Child Foundation!
